I was currently running on 215-45-16 azenis, but I need to replace them this year for somemore speedtrials events, I drive to the track and back. I really wanted to go with the new azenis, but they only offer a 205-40-16 and availability for 15" in the midwest is a thumbs down. What other tires can I use in a 215-45-16 or 225-45-16 that is not gonna empty my wallet and perform like the azenis, I realize I have more options with 15" rims, but Im planning to move to a 15" rim with a hard compound tire by the summer.
I just bought these fuzzies a little over a week ago and I gotta say, they are pretty damned good (and seem pretty sticky compared to my Ecsta 712s when new - from memory of-course) for the price ($72.00). They only have a 205/45-16 in the general dimensions you are looking for (1.5% off by my math from your 215/45-16). I would have no qualms about putting my car on the track w/ these (but I tracked my car on Kumho Ecsta WR 712s too so maybe that should be an indicator).

I hear the new Hankook Ventus R-S2 is a great tire. I read that Andy Hollis just pulled off a National Tour win in STS2 using them. They come in both sizes you mention as well.

944-S. The Kumhos? Nah, they are street tires, I am sure they would be but I wanted to take the car home
They were always pretty decent in the dry, in the wet on track, they were hiddeous. Haven't put the car on track w/ the fuzzies, but I would not have any issue or concern doing so.
If that tire DR is pointing out is a known quantity, that's probably a safer performance bet. I am one guy w/ this one and only had these things like 9 or 10 days - my comments should be taken in that context.

Doesn't look like it - UTQG is 200. Looks like a pretty hardcore street tire though:

Could be an MX/Azenis competitor indeed.

I'm getting the Hankook (Ventus R-S2) Z212 for the street. Looks to be very promising, indeed. Plus they have 16" tire selection.
I hate 16" wheels because of the tire selection.
If you can find Pirelli PZero Asymmetricos, those are fantastic too. They have the best feel of any tire I've ever driven, including all the R compounds (Toyo/Kumho/BFG)

Yeah, 16" sizes really do suck. Especially for STX drivers. 245/45/16 Hankook Z212s and Falken GRB FK-451s (shaved, if you will) were the only things I found to fit "well" in that segment, at a good price. Maybe the ES100s on a good day. The Avon M500s come in that size as well...but I haven't heard much about 'em.

Well, the warehouse is out, so I ordered my set from direct tires today, hopefully they come in by Thursday...if not Im gonna rock them on the ef event july 4th.
Yeah, im kinda pissed about Azenis. I wanted to get the sports in 205/50/15, but they are discontinued. I looked into the 615's, andfor that size, i was quoted $568

Me too, I really wanted to get some new azenis, but the wait time is out of hand here in the midwest. Im sure they are excellent tires, but for guys on 16's were kinda screwed with ....well see how the hancooks do soon.

Well I finally got my tires in! Here is my insight on these:
A little noisy, but not as bad as azenis.
Cornering was very stable, car didnt want to give out taking hard cornering at 60.
It was 50 degrees, so Im sure they will do even better on warmer weather.
Sidewall dont seem as good as azenis, but they def do grip well.
Drove with them on the rain slammed on the brakes, they did slide, but they def
stop better than the azenis.
Ride quality is def better, rebound on the car not as harsh as azenis.
I loved my azenis at the track, cant tell if these will do better since its raining and our test and tune day has been canceled.
So far I like them a lot, cant say they are a better track tire since I havent driven them at the track yet, looking foward to driving them on the track.

You did end up with the Hankook Ventus RS2 Z212, right?
Mine should be on my doorstep from DTD today, 205/45 16.
