Brake job, am I paying too much?
I finally have all the pieces for my full on brake job. I'm bringing it to a very reputable guy near me. He is charging me $200.00 to change all 4 rotors, all the pads, and replacing all my brake lines w/ stainless lines. I personally think this is reasonable. What do you guys think? Please don't tell me to DIY b/c some things I'm up for doing myself and some I just don't want to deal with.

Damn.......to me that seems way too long. I bet I could do all that in less than 1.5-2
Call around, but it might be the best price you'll find</TD></TR></TABLE>
He said that 3-hours would be the max, he did mention to me that it would more than likely take less time. My problem is finding someone that I trust to work on my car. This guy used to be the head mechanic at the dealership I bought my car new from.

Always good to learn things</TD></TR></TABLE>
It's not that I don't want to learn to do it, I don't have a garage nor the time to take on the project. I've actually done brakes (minus the lines) before and honestly just hate doing it. Like I said alot of stuff I'll myself, some things I'd just rather leave to someone else.

200.00 is like 4 hours labor..
in mass its usually about $50.00 an hour for labor at a private shop.
Honestly with power tools and a lift, i can't see it taking any more than 2 hours to do..hardest part is actually getting the old lines off.............
But i guess if you don't want to get involved, and most shops don't know honda's like most people on these boards $200.00 would not be considered unreasonable.

damn $200 is a reasonable shop price. that's what I would charge if I didn't know the person. It doesn't matter how long it takes you to do it, this is the whole beauty of flat rate. For a friend I would charge over $50 to do it, if that. You basicly got to bleed the whole system after installing those brake lines too (why are you putting them on anyways?
Sounds about right as far as price goes. Just think if you lived in Canada like me you would be paying around $90 an hour (atleast on the westcoast).
I think $200 is a reasonbale price for the work your having done. It could be cheaper but thats the average price anyone would pay at a shop. If this is not a shop and just some guy doing the work i would try to get him down to 150.
This is a shop doing the work, like I said before the guy who owns the shop was the head guy at the local Honda dealership. I thought it was a reasonable price. Thanks for the feedback guys. My car goes in late next week.

I finally want to do some autocrossing w/ my piece of crap and since the car needs brakes anyway I figured I would upgrade.

Its a reasonable price, for a person that the shop barely know.
there are some parts that i think a normal guy wont do, bleeding the brake fluid and make the lines vaccum will take some experience and time.

i am a mechanic at a nissan dealer. 99 % of mechanics in the US is paid per job, not hourly. and the hours they quoted u to do a job will be the same every where because every job has a time frame that the labor book calls for. there's a labor book out there that states how many hours mechanics get paid for with each job despite the fact that u can do it faster or sooner. the only thing that changes between shops is the labor rate.
$200 is a good price...try to get him down to like $170.....If you suggest it to him with the cash in his face...he won't refuse it (most likely).....Peace My Honda NIZZLESSSSSSS
