My Bare USDM YS1 GSR Cable Tranny 1992-1993: Begin Rebuild For Boost
First off i would like to state: 1992+ B Series Tranny Gears are all interchangeable. Get that off my chest first. And no, 1988-1991 B Series Tranny gears won't apply to these "big brother" trannies.
Ok i have this gsr cable casing that i need to rebuild and i need expert opinions. Please don't spread false info. If you would like to know how i got this transmission i will tell you, if not, my question is on the next paragraph. This transmission use to run in a light blue 1990 DB with a full b17 swap (i now have the DB) and the guy who owned it blew the differential to ***** and pieces...and so the owner of the tranny asks if anyone wants this tranny and my homeboy told me take him to go get something and i was like what...
. I told him what the hell he was getting, as i had no knowledge of what his intentions were. So anyways i take him to the guy who has the tranny and turns out he gives the cable gsr tranny to my home boy for free (may i add the cable gsr tranny is very similar to the Type R tranny excluding 98+ and LSD and i also well add that i got the DB for free too on a later date). I was like, cool interchangeability baby, ohh yeah. Yes i was jealous. Turns out he never messes with the tranny and neglects it
, dumbass. It is leftover at his cousins house for over a year... Clean up time, so now my homeboys cousin wants this **** out now and immediately 30 minutes later it's in my garage
. Heehee. Okay sad part...i take out the casing and see the FD is to *****
and the gears are all good
. I left the gears in a car i bought for parts then i had a junkyard come take the car...can u feel the climax coming
. I actually forgot to take the damn gears out, yikes! Bonk me people for i must be. But hold on...i know where they put the car at though and the gears are still there...but i still had some other gears in there too so i don't know which is which and that brings me to my burning question.
How the hell do i tell what kind of gear i have in my hands. I know there are 92-93 GSR Gears in there so how do i tell. I know u have to count the tooth on the gear but still if i count it i have nothing to cross reference it with? How do i tell if it is a GSR gear or something else (dont ask me what other gears i have in there i dont remember).
Also you dumbasses
will have to check out my tranny if it still is a good tranny to rebuild cause the FD stracthed the tranny wall and broke some stuff check out the pics
. Not to major i believe.

I also need opinions on what gears to put in there, if it is still good to rebuild. If i can get the GSR gears back heres what i will have to choose from to put in the YS1.
-92-93 GSR Gears Probably 98 Type R FD
-96 LS Gears Original FD
-95 GSR Gears Original FD
-99 SI Gears Original FD
This tranny will go into a turbo b16a2 crx project of mine so keep in mind that it will be turdbo'ed
. And all will be LSD, maybe
.

btw, 99 Si gears and 92-93 GSR gears are about the same ratios.
hmm.. for boost, I'd say go with 95 GSR gears and original FD..
OR, go for 99 Si gears and the LS 4.266 FD.

i have a good ys1 and an s1 that had a cracked case. now the s1 is all taken apart. i didn't touch the ys1.
anyway, aluminum can be tig welded. or jb weld works as a ghetto fixit job. put it on both sides and it will hold. i used the jb weld method on my s1 case, but afterwards i found a place that can tig weld, so i would take anything there in the future. ys1's are like the hydraulic b-series trannies, just cable-actuated.

the Si has shorter gearing than the 94+ GSR
if your keeping the stock redline id say go w/ the 94+ gsr gears, or what he mentioned the si w/ a 4.266 (this will still be slightly shorter than the gsr).
check out http://www.autocrossing.com/cgi-bin/gearcalc.cgi to figure out what you like... also keep in mind 205/50/15 tires have about a 22.8" diameter so change that on the chart
id also go with a stock itr lsd as well since it fits in that tranny casing.

you might wanna check that gear calculater again
the Si B16A is shorter than the 94+ GSR, but almost the same as the 92-93 GSR (except 1st and 5th, which are shorter on the 92-93 GSR). either way, the two are very similar.
and thanks for that link

Dont worry about this. These are just to control oil "fling".
When you install an LSD, 90% of the time these need to be trimmed
or shaved anyhow. That looks like what somebody did. I would just clean them
up a little and remove the sharp edges. Basically just make sure no pieces are
gonna come loose.

I used to have a complete rebuild on a video, I have sold the last original one and have only the uncut version which I don't think will do again as it's just too much time in editing and it does not appear like there is much interest in it.
