Black metal brackets underneath rear passenger seats

dug this up from my picture archive.. I was wondering if that three-piece black bracket (bottom left in the pic) underneath the rear passenger seats are necessary for the car's frame rigidity/reinforcement, or if it's just there for side impact incase of a T-bone accident. I know the JDM ITR's don't come with them because you have to remove the brackets in order for the jdm rear seats to fit properly. Please leave your input if you have any. Just making sure what reason it's there for, I wouldn't want my chassis snapping in half when autocrossing if it's there for chassis rigidity. If it's just to hold the rear passenger seats in place, then I'm not really worried about removing it. Thanks.

AFAIK it's not ITR specific.. Not sure if it can go into older models though, as I would expect the bolt holes for it not to be tapped in there. I could be wrong on that though, as I've never had one to inspect..

My RS is a '97 too and it had it, but the other thing too is that '97 is the year that honda changed alot of **** to make the jump to '98-01
BTW, thanks to everyone who posted up so far, that's what i wanted to hear. As long as it's not there for chassis rigidity/flex, i'm fine with removing it

From the past posts I read about that thing, I read that it is a side impact beam used for safety and to bolt the rear seats on. They came on all the USDM integra's 97 and up. They didnt come on the JDM intgera's.
