race gas?
i dont know much about it other then its a higher octane...if you had a bolt on modded R and had it tuned on pump gas, but decided to run race gas at the track would there be a difference in power? would it be worth using or just be a waste of money sense the car was tuned on pump gas
info please

my motor is about 12.4:1 compression...
i mix in a few gallons of race gas @ the track on extremely hot days just to be safe
on your motor with just bolt ons, you're just wasting money

Yep, complete waste, not to mention less efficient burn due to the higher octane. I wouldn't even be surprised at a loss of power.

I don't think I've lost power when I've run it (can't remember but think it was 96 or 98) but I know my wallet felt the hit. 100 or more contains lead last time I checked which isn't good for the cat and emissions system iirc.
It sucks when you get stuck at the track and don't have any petrol left in the cans to refill quickly for the next session
Waste of $$$ and why I bought 2 gas cans since the last time.

If you run the same timing with 93 and 100 octane gas, you ought to lose a pony or two with the 100 octane.
It is however great insurance against detonation/knock, which is why I run higher than 93 octane on the track. Well, except for the rental Neon, which gets 87 octane.

Chris, You have turbo. He has boltons.
If he said hehad turbo and wanted to use 100 octane, Id say **** run it everyday. But for simple boltons it will not help unless you are dumping tons of timing in that you prob wont be able to do anything with.

Whatever man. Turbo is bolted on, too.
But you're right. You don't build up enough heat in a 1/4 mile run to really be worried about detonation with boltons. So it'd just be plain slower, not faster or safer at all. Waste of money.

No, I think you're right, but to many it's worth a few extra bucks not to find out.
To the original poster, read this.

"To add to the above: part of the tradeoff you get for the antiknock characteristics is lower fuel efficiency. That is, a gallon of high-octane fuel has less energy (fewer calories, joules, kilowatt-hours, what have you) than lower-octane fuel. Thus, putting high octane fuel into a low-compression engine is worse than useless--it lowers your mileage and your performance. You use it in a sports car because those engines get more power through higher compression. "
