My door latch is rusting off. The metal around the latch is rusting. It gets worse every day. I think one day soon my car door is going to just fly open.

How much would it cost to have a shop cut out the rusted metal, then weld on a metal plate and drill in the door hinge. I have no experience welding so I can't do it.

 

How do you expect us to give an estimate for the work another shop we don't know is going to do?

Go to a local body shop that can do it and get an estimate.

Or go to a local welding and metal fab shop and get an estimate.

If you are that worried about it, and it does sound like a bad situation don't waste time asking online. Go out and get it looked at or fixed, instead of getting some low estimate from a bunch of guys online, getting your hopes up, and then finding out is is actually going to cost you double or tripple when you actually get to a shop.
