Question 1... I'm about to replace my outer tie rods on 1997 accord. After loosening the top nut that crap wouldnt come out. Can i just hammer it out since I will replacing it with brand new tie rods. Also, will I need an aliignment after the tie rod job.

Question 2... I stripped the screw on the rotor while i was doing my tune up. That screw was so soft that it just twisted on the first turn. How can I remove that screw safely without damaging anything. Also I'll need a new screw. Where can i get it besides the dealer. THanks.

1. you will have to tap it out with a mallot/hammer or you can use a pry bar to separate it

2. use flat head screwdriver small enough to insert into the screw head tap it in with a happer and then unscrew it. or use a pair of pliars to grip the scew head and turn it.

 

1) There is a 'specialty tool' for ball joints that you NEED. Looks like a pitch fork .. then you wack it w. a hammer and it seperates the joint. Yes you will need an alignment.

2) I donno what screw your talking about b/c you dont need to remove screws to change rotors on 94-97 accord. But most likely youll just want to drill out the head of the screw and it should come right out.

 

i was refering to the screw on the ignition rotor. You know the one underneath the cap... :-) Anyway, Tapping on it, and making a new groove, wouldnt it bend the rod it sits on? Then i'll be completely fukced. I think I'm going to try the pliers. OR CAN I DRILL IT OUT?

About the tie rods... You guys are 100% positive i'll need an allighnment after replacement.

 

If you have a dremel tool with a cutoff wheel(or friend with one) use that to cut a groove and use a flat screwdriver to take it off. That is the safe way.

 

you don't need an alignment, just count the turns when you take it out and put it back in same place,,

 

as for the rotor screw, take distr out of car, easier to work that way, try to grab it with some needle nose vise grips

 

Ahhh more problems.... I ordered some polytherane bushings to go with my new tie rods. But i noticed something that i didnt like. These Urethane bushings do not have that little slice for the tie wire to go thru. I hope you know what I am talking about. If you look at the OEM tie rod rubber bushing, you will see that it is closely tightened at the bottom with a little wire piece. Well, energy suspension urethane crap doesnt have it, and therefore when I sqeeze is it on the tie rod it doesnt seal properly and leaks grease. Any suggestions what I should do. Stay OEM with that original wire, or slap the Urethane cap and make a DIY slice for the wire?
