Default Speed TV (or is it Nascar TV)

What's the deal? Can they cram any more Nascar in a 24 hr period. Speed used to be on 24/7 in our house but not now. What a shame, we finally had a place where we could see decent programming associated with racing. Even Wind Tunnel was bumped because they needed more Nascar programming.

wind tunel is on sunday nights i just watched it.

think about it like this, you own speed you NEED to make money. Not alot of people want to watch things like some of use do WE ARE THE MINORITY. The NASCAR people are in the millions most likely. And they are all mostly OBSESED with it, so the smart people at speed say hmmmm lets play alot of the NASCAR stuff and make money, AND we will be able to still be around to play the other stuff

Well, FOX has a significant investment in NASCAR, so purchasing Speedvision was a good way for them to promote and expand the series as a means of getting more returns on that investment. Unfortunately, they completely raped the purity right out of the channel and turned it into NASCAR central. I don't even bother to check to see what's on anymore on what used to be my favorite channel. I remember when FOX was in negotiations to buy Speedvision, there were online petitions signed by thousands of people (including myself) begging FOX not to NASCARize the channel, but like Jimmy said, we are the minority.

Yea, I don't mind watching nascar, but you can only talk about it so much. Its overkill right now.

Well i personally wish instead of it being all nascar. It be all road racing and some smaller grass roots type racing like the NASA and SCCA stuff like the run offs in Ohio but more frequent.

nascars fine at times but im not a huge fan of the actual sport . going in circles for hours just seems dumb to me. especially when i think that the only reason the red necks go to the races soo much is just to party and get soo drunk they cant remember the weekend and they go the next too.

but i do miss sport car revolution and all of the sports car stuff ..

i think wind tunnel is kinda dumb too. but some people like it

Fox, and NBC, paid way too much for the NASCAR rights. They cannot make up in commercials what it cost them to get the races. They are not in the business of losing money, so more NASCAR shows gets them more revenue. A number of the shows they had on before are still on, but not when I am interested in watching them and I generally forget to tape them. The non-NASCAR stuff will keep getting poor ratings due to being on at weird times and then get cancelled, proving that they are not popular. Hell, put the most popular show on TV on at 11 pm Sunday or 10 am Saturday and it will get crappy ratings, proving it's not really popular.

If you bought the airtime, they would run whatever you wanted. Until you are paying the bills, you are at the mercy of those who do.

We can complain all day about how Speed Tv sucks and puts to much Nascar but we are fortunate to have the channel in the first place. Nascar knows how to market, first dumb the sport down as much as possible add a bunch of rednecks, top it off with WWE style antics, have a pro car that has a kirkey seat and no real technology to confuse someone and sprinkle in some booggite boogitie and you have nascrap.

If you have road race series split into 50 different series instead of one with a bunch of foreigners from France that can't speak English and have whinerideas, with technical cars and change of rules every race it’s hard to follow. If you watch a formula one race or a Cart race you have to understand the rules to understand the strategies, you may even have to concentrate. Nascrap does suck but Speed TV still has better coverage and broadcaster then any other station in my opinion.

And Speed TV would most likely no longer be on the air today if that's what the programming was.

Ever seen footage of the Sebring crowd?

NASCAR keeps Speed alive so they are able to broadcast the races you want to see. I'm sure most are able to read a programming schedule, find when stuff is on and watch it then, if it's on when you aren't around, record it and watch it in place of NASCAR programming the next day. I wish the World Superbike and MotoGP rebroadcasts weren't on in the middle of the day on Tuesdays, but I'm glad they're at least being broadcast. NASCAR is your savior, embrace it.

Just remember Dave Despain's little "rant" last year on Wind Tunnel.

He said it best by stating, "There's just too many of them." (Referring to the fan base nASScar has.)

I'm hoping that the long-term solution to this will be that we tune into the internet to watch what we really want to see. http://www.revs.tv is an example of this. I figure at some point, there will be an internet channel where you can download the races you want to see.

I do understand the business of Marketing very well and can see all the reasons that the Board at Speed have decided to go to the programming they're using. It's just too bad that the balance has shifted to such a degree that those of us who do not enjoy NASCAR have no where else to go. There are many channels out there that serve a particular niche forgoing the lure of popular culture. SpeedVision started that way. I'm in no way criticizing their decision. Just disappointed at the loss.

I don't know about that. Was Speedvision struggling before FOX bought it? It was on for several years without a drop of NASCAR, so I would venture to guess not. I think that FOX just saw it as a way to move in on a medium that already had a strong fan base of people interested in racing. Unfortunately, they may have miscalculated how much of the then current fan base would be left after they started bumping Speed World Challenge races in favor of NASCAR pre-season thunder (filmed practice sessions). I don't feel that NASCAR saved anything. In fact, I think it destroyed something great by way of FOX trying to cram as much of it as possible down our throats. Man I miss the MotoGP races and the WRC coverage that aired before 1am. Oh well, I guess it goes to show you that money talks.

Well, MotoGP races are on Sundays at 3pm, same day coverage. And I'm sure Speed has more than made up for the fans that left after the NASCAR move. Money talks, and Speed has open ears

Spoiled brats. There was a time not very long ago at ALL, that there was no rallying whatsoever on the tube. Now we have Motorsport Mundial broadcasting British productions of US EVENTS and we are whining about them not being on during prime time. I used to have to wait almost a MONTH to get Autosport (by subscription only, BTW) before I even knew who had won an FIA round.

Old fart voice off.
