Hey guys...ive been having this problem for a while now....but everytime i reset my ECU the CEL goes away, and it seems like i get more pwr back from the engine...when the CEL comes on i lose pwr....wth is goin on???

 

I have to ask....are you doing anything to adjust the fuel, or are you just resetting the ecu w/o doing anything?

 

no, im not touching the fuel...im just taking off the (-) part of the batt..

Code 45 is fuel rich or lean
Figure out which it is and do something about it. When was the fuel filter replaced? Run any injector cleaner? What is your pressure regulator set at?

 

Also check your o2 sensor y0!

 

The FPR is off...so its stock...ive never cleaned out the injectors/fuel filter....but y do i get my pwr back when i reset it? (just wondering)

 

Valve adjustment - that's where you start with that code usually...

When's the last time you had a valve adjustment?

When certain codes are thrown, the ecu reverts to 'limp mode'. that is why it's slower with the cel on. that has nothing to do with fixing your problem.

 

Did the code happen before the valve adjustment?

 

The ECU has parameters called Long Term and Short Term Fuel Trim. These can swing the fuel +/- 20% and is based off of O2 feedback. When you reset the ECU, you are resetting these back to 0. Just to be clear though, STFT always resets to 0 when you turn the car off - LTFT does not. So there's your 'power'.

 

Here are your possible causes, according to All-Data: (in no particular order)

Fuel pump
Fuel feed line clogged
*Fuel filter clogged
Fuel injector clogged, or air intrusion
*Exhaust leak
Bad gasoline
MAP sensor
*Primary o2 sensor deteriorated
*Valve clearance/adjustment

I denoted the ones I'd check first with stars.

A fuel filter only costs $25.00 or so, so you might as well swap it out with a new OE Honda one.

I've seen this code thrown from a bad valve adjustment many times.

Exhaust leaks are very common, especially with stock exhaust manifolds - they are notorious for cracking, and some are covered under extended warranties.

Good luck - it's not exactly the most cut and dry code to troubleshoot.

 

thanks man...well i relpaced my primary O2 sensor when my CEL frist came on...the CEL frist came on the instant i started up my car at the Honda dealer....i took it back to them, and they said everythign was ok...and the CEL was not their fault....ill check the fuel filter and injectors...i know the o2 sensor is good.....i hear getting a VAFC II will solve my problems too.....

 

I see you have a FPR - What is your fuel pressure set to?

 

Adding a V-AFc to an already problematic situation is the last thing I'd do.

Fix the CEL before adding a V-AFC - you'll never know the true cause of the CEL once you throw in another variable like a V-AFC, and no shop will want to troubleshoot your problem if someone else put a V-AFC on it.

 

k, thanks man....the shop i took it to said they wanna check all the sensors to see if it could be any of them...if its none of them...then he says it could be the ECU...does he mean the map?

 

I really really doubt its the ecu. That's pretty much a shop's way of saying they don't know. Ecu don't usually just go bad and throw only one code. I don't think that shop is going to be much more help to you. Check everything b18c5-eh2 listed. i would bet one of those is your problem.
