Default Flood-damaged 2nd Gen CRX

During the heavy rains of the last couple of weeks, I noticed this CRX on my way to work and was going to pass by that same week and see if it was for sale. Unfortunately the river the house was built near rose due to the heavy rains and basically swallowed up the car. At frst I thought the car was moved but once the water receded, I noticed it was still in the same spot as before. I'm gonna pass by and see if they want to sell it. What kind of offer should I make on a CRX that had 2-feet-of-water-above-the-roof kind of flood damage!

But what about buying it as a body and interior trim parts car? I'm pretty sure the seats and carpet and stuff might be FUBAR. Could the engine be salvaged as in taken apart and tehn rebuilt? I've only seen this car from across a river so I'm not even sure what kind of CRX it is. All I know for now is that it is white

I would only buy it as a parts car. Strip it and take what you need and sell the rest. The engine should be able to be rebuilt fairly easily.

Hell yeah I would make them an offer for the submerged CRX too. They will probably let it go for cheap!

I'm probably gonna pass by there tomorrow morning on my way to work just to check it out. As in my original post, what kind of offer should I, well, offer? I'm pretty sure it wasn't running prior to "swimming" in the river.

if it has like no rust, i'd offer like 50 bucks, and if they say no go higher. if it had rust, i wouldn't pay much for it unless it had something taht i wanted.

remember, unless they want it, you're doing them a favor by getting a car out of there that has no real value except to an enthusiast and they'd have to pay to junk it. i'm not saying rip them off, i'm just saying don't let them rip you off. my numbers are low because i can't see the car.

Well, this morning I passed by to take a look at the flood-damaged CRX and talk to the owner about possibly buying it. No one was home. In fact, no one was home at any of the homes in along that part of the river. The only people there were the guys hired by the county/township to clean up the flood damage. I left my contact info with the one guy I spoke with since he said he'd be there for the next few weeks doing cleanup and he would pass on my info to the CRX owner should he/she come back.

Now about that CRX... It's a 2nd Gen HF and is white with black trim (same colour as my DX) but it has some bondo on most of the body panels and the 2 doors. All the glass is good, no cracks. Also there are no cracks on the headlights, turn signal markers and taillights. The turn signal covers (?) in the front bumper were amber in colour as opposed to the clear ones with the amber inserts that I have on my 90 CRX DX. Wasn't able to take a look at the engine but I'm assuming it's MPFI since it is an HF. Interior plastic trim looks good although a bit "muddy". The guy I spoke with said the car was probably under at least 10-15 feet at the roof! Crazy! Anyways, I'm not expecting to hear back from the owner any time soon and and this car probably isn't worth the trouble I've put into finding out more about it, but I hate to see a CRX go to waste! Having extra headlights and taillights and stuff like that is a good thing right? And I can use the windshield since mine is cracked! I could also use the intake mani for a DPFI to MPFI swap, right?

So I talked with the owner of the previously mentioned CRX HF. He says it's an 88 HF. He's asking $200 for it. I've searched and from what i've found out, the doors are different due to the seatbelts positioning on or off the door, as well as the molding and turn signal markers. What can be salvaged from this car and transferred over to my 90 DX? Windshield? Bumpers? Interior plastic? Seats? Rear hatch? Front fenders? All glass except the from the doors? I'm pretty sure the engine is MPFI. I can use the intake mani. Is it even worth my trouble for $200? I'm sure if I wait a bit I can talk him down to $100-150. Thanks in advance!

well, call around for the price of a windshield. thats worth 1-200 on its own, but sometimes they break coming out. i wouldn't mess with the engine, yes its mpfi but i would not ever use those wires and the intake manifold is horrible for performance. basically you can use whatever looks similar that's not electronic on your dx.

y not take what will fit your CRX and then resell it to someone who can use the what is left...if nobody wants it then just scrap it.

tell him you can't afford $200 for something in that condition...and just point out all the things wrong with it and if he doesn't come down then...he will. just make sure he has your contact info and tell him if he changes his mind to call. if he doesn't call in a week or so, and you think it would be worth it for $200, call him back and go get it at that price or take $150 cash with ya. green speaks.

Default EDIT! Pics added!

Although I haven't purchased it yet, I'm coming closer to buying the damn car. I went in for an inspection this morning and not 10 minutes after it was rolled into the garage, the guy tells me he can't pass it due to the growing crack in my windshield. Damn! Estimates for a new windshield were between $245 to $360!! Damn again! Looks like I'm gonna buy this 88 HF for the windshield alone. I'm hoping the guy will accept my offer of $100! Take out the windshield and then have it installed for another $100. Not too bad eh? Then I'll strip it of all the parts I can transfer over to my 90 DX or keep as extras just in case! I passed by this morning to take pics. Let me know what you think.

The fenders aren't is as bad a shape as I had originally remembered. The doors on the other hand could use some work, although I think the bond work was to try to fill in the spave where the door modling is supposed to go.

The seats and all fabric are all moldy now! Hopefully all the plastic interior trim is salvageable.

Here's a pic of the flooded engine which I doubt is salvageable...right? Besides...it's an HF right?

And here's a pic of the front end. I think the hood is may actually in better shape than my own (less dents and dings).

I'm hoping to reach the guy by this weekend and then hopefully picking up the vehicle soon after!

I wouldn't give more than $50 for it...200 before maybe...not now. Unless you know how do do stuff with windows you;d better call the window guy and see what he'd charge to r and r the window. I had a parts car I wanted to do the same with and no window person here would touch it.

As far as trying to get it to run. I would pull the plugs and crank it over a few times to make sure no water was in it...then maybe a tea spoon of oil in each cynlinder then give it a shot...will prolly run as long as the ecu or wiring is not toast.

if you do take it ill buy the front swaybar and endlinks to help you recoup some of your money.

also, w/ the windshield- if you take it out yourself, you'll have a better chance of the window guy putting it in for you if it is a by-the-books kind of place. they have better tools and experience romoving and installing though, so i'd try to find a guy you could slip a few bucks to and have him take care of it for you.

i don't get what is so bad for 100 bucks? ****, just the body parts and lights as spares are worth that. and the shell looks better than most 100 dollar crx's...

maybe this is why i have so many cars that need work...
