Default gas smell inside

I just bought a 1990 Honda Civic Si. It had a blown Si motor. I took my d15b from my 93 dx, put on the intake, headers, and tranny from the Si. It has an idle problem at idle but that will be fixed when I change the AIC control valve and the throttle body. Anyways, I seem to get a gas smell when I take off in first and second..... and I don't know where it could be coming from.. any ideas?

Thanks

JF

Try looking around in the engine bay, it could be your intake manifold gasket leaking.

smell could be coming from a loose fitting under the hood or a leky tank. they tend to rust out on the seam on the side.

Does it have the charcoal canister in place?
Without that, the fumes from the purge solenion/EVAP system go to open air if the hoses weren't plugged properly.

I would check out the gas tank for rust holes... get under there and see if you can smell a strong odor. I would fill the tank up and then jack up the front of your car only... when i've had rusty tanks this forced the leak because of gravity. Also, sniff around your rear seat to see if a gas odor is coming in from under that. That could be why you smell it when the sunroof is open... its creates sort of a vacuum and could pull the odor in. I had the same problem with the windows open in mine.. it was the tank. You can get one at auto zone.

Anyway, if that isnt the cause, check the fuel filter like stated.

I too have a problem like this. But it's not gas I smell, it smells of exhaust. Any ideas?

It can't be as bad as me. I got a hole in my gas tank. Can't put more then 5$ gas in at a time. Hopefully a CRX gas tank fits on.

I call for it being the hole in the cat. I just swapped my ZC in and I know my exhaust is leaking in 2 places, but it smells like gas, even though im not running rich or leaking (getting 24+ MPG).

Just get that cat fixed and I almost promise it'll go away. Gas and exhaust smell almost the same from inside the car.
