Default to weld or not to weld

I need peoples advice on whether or not i should just get my tranny aluminium welded, drill a new hole, and tap some new threads?

I've got mixed opinions so far from the people i've spoken to.

I'd say weld it up redrill it and tap it. Done alot of tranny's out here in CA like that, havn't had a problem welding one yet. Welding a block now that is a problem... but never had a problem welding up a alum tranny or oil pan.

Any idea why it tore out like that? broken motor mount maybe? If you don't find the reason a repair will just tear out the same again.

well the place who did my swap used the wrong rear mount so only 2 of the 3 bolts that hold the mount to the tranny were used. So obviously it caused way too much strees on that bolt and it took a chunk of the tranny out.

ouch, I'd say unless you fix the mount issue and use all 3 bolts, there is no point in fixing the tranny as it will just break again. Good luck .

what you need is a nice 1/2" thick piece (block) of aluminum. make sure you bevel the trans side and the piece you are welding in. that way you can get really nice penetration.
then tig weld it. you will probably need something with around 200amps output or else you are going to have to do quite a few passes

once it is weld. drill and tap . in my opinion that fix would hold up nicely as long as you prepared and welded it properly
