Need some opinions from the HT'ers. I got Hit by a truck.
Okay, to make a long story short, some dude in a truck backed into my passenger side fender and bumper. He and his wife tried to put it on me, but whatever. I talked to his insurance company, Geico, and they told me I can get my car fixed anywhere I want, but I have to get it assessed at one of the body shops they approve. I'm having it looked at tomorrow by the closest one available, and want to know how much the following damage (in pics) should cost to fix. I just want to make sure I'm not being lowballed. Also, I'm not exactly sure how this works. Does this mean that the body shop makes an estimate and geico just cuts me a check for the amount, or what?

i have tripple A, i got low blowed because i am young "17" the chick got away and she won tho she was driving a suv some ford, but i remember the insurance company comming to take pictures and they will give you an estimate of how much you will get.
i have AAA and i'm only 18, i was cut a check for $1300 (from a AAA recommended shop)
SAME kind of accident with almost the EXACT same damage...i was parked on the side of a parking lot, lady backs out and hits my fender..my bumper didnt have too big of a dent but my fender looked just as bad as yours does..looking at your pics again, we actually pretty much have the same damage..i could almost stick my head into the dent in my fender
the $1300 was for a new fender, new bumper, re-align my hood, and to repaint the whole front end.. hope this helps

That does help actually, thanks. Were you at fault, or was the lady? Did she have AAA also or something? Was your wheel alignment messed up too? Thanks for the input.

they can have you get a estimate at one of their shops, but it doesn't necesarrily mean you gotta get it fixed there. still get a estimate at one of your shops and compare and contrast. also if they give you a low estimate, dont accept it and try to get more out of them. its their fault afterall, they did back up into you

Okay so I did the little estimate deal today. I got written up for a lot more than I was expecting, which is good - about ~$1600. Does that sound right? I'm still a little foggy on what exactly happens from here. I'm not sure if I'm getting cash, or the body shop I go to is getting the money. They're still deciding liability since they need my statement (should be a no brainer...), so I guess I'll ask after giving my statement.

$1600 is a very good price, my wheel alignment was not off and the lady was deffinitely at fault (my car was parked)...her insurance co. was not AAA, some small name company..she filed the claim within 2 days and the matter was resolved in less than a week (car out of body shop)..judging from those pictures we had pretty similar damage and for you to get $300 more is pretty good, unless you have wheel alignment damage
