Default B16a hp Results Again

Got my car dyno'd again at dynospotracing. They said they would help with smog but my dad and I highly doubt that they did anything really substantial. They just adjusted the fuel maps at idle and the low profile a little bit along with a small change in timing. I am pretty happy with the results and once I pass smog I plan on making a lot more power.

Btw my mods are JDM b16a, I/h/e, Skunk2 Intake Manifold, Ctr pistons, and very minor headwork done by my dad and I. NO cams, no real headwork, and everything but the pistons are carb legal along with some headwork and very minor tuning.

Heres the chart.

Looks good but will be better with some better cams. The CTR pistons bump the compression up around 11.5:1 or so. With compression like that a nice set of cams will help the power numbers.

162 hp sounds pretty healthy to me
Few mods and good numbers.

The first run (119hp) had VTEC disabled. The second run has VTEC set at 4500 RPM.

That looks good to me! Especially since it seems like the last few modded B16's I have seen have dyno'ed closer to 120 hp lately (and less!). You have a strong little engine there man. So I say

Michael, your numbers look good, with some big cams you are going to fly. What ecu/program do u have?

Thats so cool! Father and son

We actually have two ecu's, one JDM p30 auto and one USDM p30 Manual. Both are chipped with datalogging. It seems like my dad uses a bunch of different programs for the ecu's. So far I've seen him fiddling around with Chrome, Uberdata, etc. All of the free ones. I'm not sure what program he's currently using but I'm sure he'll chime in when he gets around to checking on this post.

Also, the stupid smog ref seems to smogging my car with a weight of 3,000lbs. I can kind of understand 2500lbs but 3000 is way too much even with a huge person in it. This seems to be one of the more serious reasons I"m not passing smog. It's a bitch because I've only got this month left before the DMV starts giving me out daypasses for my registration.

Vlad - I'm currently running the stock 1st gen b16a cams which are probably holding back a lot of power. I never had any other cams but plan on getting some bigger ones or turboing the ls engine that's sitting in the garage. I'm leaning more towards turboing now that my dad has the ecu pretty much figured out. Actually I've been throwing around a lot of ideas like nitrous or big cams with a Bisi//hytech//etc header on this engine. We'll have to see. I'm hoping on hitting around 200whp like omni or going with the turbo LS. Either way the car will be really nice and both will probably smoke my dad's cobra so I'm looking forward to that.

Have fun getting your car smogged. I still need some slicks//wheels and tires then we'll have to hit up either sac or Infinion. You know if Matt's been working on his car lately? We should both smoke his VW that cost a lot more than our cars.

We set the VTEC at 4500 as a guess, just to see how it would look. If we weren't going to do any more tuning, I'd set the VTEC at about 5250RPM. If you look at the curves, both the HP and torque curves cross there. But it looks like a little twiddling with the maps MIGHT be able to give us a straighter set of lines between about 4750 and 6000RPM. And remember that this is based on pretty rough tuning of the low cam maps and no tuning of the high cam maps. I'd like to get them tuned up a lot more, and then figure out the VTEC point.

The TB is out of a '94 JDM GSR. We had to swap the RHD throttle linkage with the LHD linkage off our old TB and then we recalibrated it.

We couldn't get any binaries made with Uberdata to not throw a solid CEL, so we've been editing exclusively with CROME. We've been helping the guy who's developing FreeLog, so we've been doing most of our logging with that, check it out at http://www.pgmfi.org. If anyone knows of the P30 RAM location that can tell us when the ECU turns the injectors off for decel, we can make the logs a lot more accurate, BTW.

We just upgraded to CROME Pro, so we can log with it, too. In fact, I logged the second dyno run with it, and saw that we are at about 97% duty cycle on the injectors at high RPM, so if we get much more out of this little engine, it looks like we'll have to go to larger injectors and higher fuel pressure. Unfortunately, the smog ref notices the aftermarket fuel pressure regulators, and would not be happy, so that will have to wait.

That PLX M300 is nice, BTW. I think it may be headed for the Cobra when we're done with the CRX. Sorry Mike

Do we even need a fuel pressure regulator if we install that high flow fuel pump with bigger injectors?

good numbers. Much better than my B16... of course i had no internal work done. just i/h/e, fpr, and chipped ecu. and 3 more HP than my B18C.

for comparisons, my B16 dyno (vtec switchover at 5200rpm):

and my B18C1 Dyno (vtec switchover at 4700rpms):

the second graph actually shows the B16A vs B18C. The only difference is the B18C has a S2 IM and cam gears. otherwise, same mods (i/h/e, FPR, chipped ecu).

Again, good numbers!!
