this is my daily and i communte about 80 miles a day to school/work. the motor is a d16y7 with 192k. the test was 155 180 180 175. are those numbers ok, or should i throw a new longblock in there. i already have a teh tranny off casue im puttin a new clutch in

155 is pretty off from the others. you can rebuild it.

 

never done a rebuild before, can get an estimeate on price

 

u dont need a rebuild...give it a wet compression test..if the compression goes up chances are ur head gasket is shot...

Run it till you notice a large decrease in power, or a crapload of smoke. YOu never know it might run for another 150k miles like that.

 

Ya dont even worry about that too much, that is still good compression numbers for that much mileage.. Try pooring a little oil couple table spoons in low cylinder and then do it again and see if it goes up.!
Also make sure you have injectors unplugged and you have car @ full throttle when starting it.

 

screw rebuilding, get piston rings for 20 bucks and get a oil pan gasket and some thread lock, you'll be good as new

That's what I'd do.

And when it finally goes, just find another engine and drop it in. It might cost you $250.00 or so and IMO it's easier to swap an entire engine rather than rebuild one.

 

or just replace the head gasket now instead of running the car in the ground, blowing it, getting towed, new longblock.. shrug thats what 400-500, head gasket and studs are 120... takes all of what 3 hours for a noob to swap a head gasket

 

How can you guys determine it's the head gasket?

It could be a piston ring, cylinder wall, etc. etc.

 

1. Cracked head. 2. Blown piston 3. Cracked Block 4. Blown head gasket 5. Broken valve component - spring, cracked seat, bent valve, bad lifter any of these could be your problem

 

i dont think the car will be running with a blown pistion, cracked walls, or broke valvetrain.
the motor is old and showing some wear

 

I never blown or cracked - I simply said piston ring or cylinder wall, meaning wear and tear.

 

Did you do the compression test just to find out what it was at? or does it not run right?

 

dude chances are the exhaust valve has too much **** around it and needs to be cleaned. run a leak down test your best bet to see what it really is. but that compression isnt too bad. just run it till it blows up and get a swap thats what i did.

That may sound ghetto, but atleast it might give you a few more months to save up some money and what not. Just NO racing

 

i already ahve the tranny off, should i go ahead and swap or should it run for a while, doesnt leak or burn anythign, seems to run fine, they tranny just got replaced due some nice grinding of second gear

how would u know? last night u wanted to turn off vtec cuz it was tooo loud and u didnt even know what mods u have cuz the kid u bought it from said its far from factory

 

i just id the comperession check to see how the motor was doing, seemed to run find minus the grinding tranny

 

my motor made 250-260psi on 3 cyl but cyl 1 only made 220
but i still lay down 202whp so...
