Default Are DC2 Mods/Parts on the Endangered Species List?

After I install my header and do some minor tuning with v-afc and cam gears, I plan to leave the car alone until my warranty expires. After the warranty goes bye-bye, I plan to do such mods as the JDM Final Drive and Spoon Cams. What are the chances that these parts, or any other parts that are DC2 specific for that matter, will still be available in say a year or 2?

They will probably still be available. Why not buy them as you can afford them and just stockpile them until you are ready to install them.

One of our more reputable retailers has told me that Mugen and Spoon are discontinuing a lot of their DC2 stuff. JDM FD is rare enough right now, Spoon products are disappearing fast.

pretty good. The DC2 has been around for 7-8 years and was really one of the main reasons for the import scene blowing up. There will always be parts available for it. The aftermarket wont let 7-8 years of research and development go to waste sine the RSX uses a completly different engine.

If I had the funds, I would have done what you suggested. Sadly, I have other plans with my disposable income at the moment.

Mugen parts already die out. I'm sure small Mugen and Spoon parts will disappear within 2 years frame. But, usually their "common" products survive for a while. (i.e. shocks, dampers, etc...)

Not in Japan though. As far as Japanese market - Most Aftermarket parts companies will still have there popular items around, But some parts are quickly ending up discontinued, Mugen F-360 wheel, Spoon EK9 and DC2 Clusters, Etc.
As Far as Japanese OEM Honda parts, Their Aftermarket line (Honda Access) has already discontinued Items like the rear strut bar, Roof Consoles, Pedal sets etc. I Figure Most of the OEM parts FD, Header etc will still be available in the years to come, But not sure how long or how easy it will be to get them.

I'm sure parts will still be around, they still have them for the early 90's civics don't they?

Chris, who is not worried.

You can still get parts for some of the old muscle cars from way back in the 60's, in fact they're still designing new ones.

Considering the b-series Honda motors are the rough 90's equivalant to the small block Chevy engines of old (in terms of popularity), I don't think you should worry.

Now some of the bling-bling parts may not be around much longer, so if that's what you want you should jump on it now. Performance parts are here to stay though.

Edit: spelling

We are already starting to see a slowdown in some DC JDM OEM and Spoon. And, since Spoon has switched efforts to their AP1 and DC5R, production will ramp down on the DC/EK/EG and ramp up for their "future." I have already "almost" seen the death of Spoon BB stuff as well as JDM. But, I would say don't worry. We will keep you posted on items that are seeing their end soon. Then again, there is always APC!

Maybe I need to narrow down my question. What parts from Spoon and others companies do you feel are going to be phased out soon?

I dont think so. J.C. whitney has parts for 91 crx's. Yes they might suck. Yes they are late. No they are not the only company starting to cater to imports from 88-up. Hopefully if anything prices will go down. Remember when the cheapest header set you back at least $400 bucks. Now they almost on the .99 cent menu.

As supplies of hard-to-get items diminishes, prices will skyrocket.

Reid - who wonders how hard it is to incite a panic...

There are big difference in your analogy. The older muscle cars came with larger-than-hell engines that today's "Muscle" market doesn't make. (Muscle car adage... no replacement for displacement).

However, for high-tech engines, it would be useless to support a B-series market when in year 2020 they have X-series engine that makes 300 hp from 0.18 liters. All I'm saying is that technology progresses and B-series support will be replaced by a better technology. Something that Domestic crowd can't really say.
