When my car is off, it makes a funny buzzing sound from around the engine. Sometimes its a long 3 second buzzing sounds, and other times its a studdering buzzing sound. What could that be?

 

Right when you turn it off? Mine makes a sound like that. I think it's the fuel return or something.

 

no i mean at random times at any time after i turn it off. not only right when i turn it off. it can be hours after turning it off even

 

i have that happen too, kinda sounds like the car is farting. i can't figure it out.

 

I am not too sure. It could be the fuel pump, or something in the engine area resetting itself.

 

i dont know sometimes it does it over and over again for no apparent reason. could it be the ECU

 

It could be the ABS resetting itself. or the circulation system (vents) resetting itself. I know my STi does it, not sure about the Honda.

 

Thats what it is if its like a hissing kinda wahhhhhhhhhhhh like sound. The ABS is circulating.

 

Mine has done it a few times, it's more like a buzz, not an air hiss type sound. I never knew what the hell it was, after it did it a few times and the car was still cool, I just forgot about it.

 

jajaja mine does it too,when my friends are around their like"dude what was that noise coming out of ur car" i tell them "that means my lude is pist"

 

same here just does it when its sitting at random its a quiet bzzzz sound like the air compresor on air bags but not as loud i gave up finding out where it comes from

 

maybe its a Ghost in the Prelude

 

haha, before I blew my 94 up, the radiator fan would come on for durations of 15 minutes up to 2 hours after the car was off, that was no good...

and in my new 00, I get that buzzing sound to, it's funny and freaked me out, I was checking my oil and clutch fluid and I heard it and jumped aside thinking it was going to blow...haha but it was normal and I guess no big deal since so many people have it happen to them...

 

yea this is just gonna be another one of those little things only prelude owners know about

 

Mine does it as well, JDM H22A. It's not ABS b/c I don't have it. Seems to happen every 3-5mins or so after shuttoff; its so faint I can only notice it when parked in a small garage.

It's the EVAP canister relieving pressure from the tank...

Does it do it on hot days?

 

no im pretty sure it does it anytime. Just at random times you can never expect it.

The first time mine did it I was pretty worried. It was just bizzare...cars arn't supposed to make funny, distinct noises 5-10 minutes after you turn them off

It doesn't happen very often in my 01, though.

are you talking about the air bags like in ur steering wheel??

 

Yea mine made this funky sound when i had a torn injector oring and the fuel pump was trying to re pressurize the system and dumping fuel all over my garage. lol what fun that was.

back from the dead, just curious is anyone has figured this out?.. I notice mine does it too, even hours after the car is off, i've never had it drain the battery or anything i generaly don't worry about it. But it has stumbed most of my mechnic friends???

 

My Honda Prelude is a 99. It also makes s humming noise. I timed it one day & the humming noise happens every 4 mins when the vehicle is off. It last about 10 secs then it stops. Has it been determined why it does that & is it something I should be concerned with?
