Default gas milage?

I am in the market and would like to know the gas milage for a 98-02 Accord coupe. What is the milage for a 4-cyl EX automatic? What is the milage for a 6-cyl EX automatic. What are the numbers from the factory and what do most people actually get from their cars?? Thanks for your help.

http://www.cars.com will tell you anthing you ever wanted to know, go there and hit research

But to answer your question and not be an ***:
25-32 4 cyl
21-28 V6

oops those are 4 door but close enough

gas mileage is also gonna depend on driving habits, maintenance, climate, etc...tires arguable most of all

if you only worry about gas mileage then get a 4 cyl with a manual transmission

I wouldn't get a 6th gen again mine is a pos, Mine is in the shop almost as much as my old 89 Chevy, it is in the shop now. Most things were covered under warranty. the a/c went out, it idles really rough and its getting worse, alternator went out, some canister valve, warped rotors, the ignition switch recall, that's just been in the 6 months I have owned it. I dont drive it hard, I treat it really good. I love the car but it really pisses me off when I have to take it to the shop, Its a beautiful car. I am disappointed in the Honda quality.

jeez man, that is ridiculous...didn't plan on upgrading my 96 EX anytime soon but it certainly won't be a 6th gen

just pulling random numbers out of my *** here, but...

my 7th gen i4 manual gets 30mpg
my aunt's 7th gen v6 auto gets 24mpg

i figure that you sacrifice somewhere around 2mpg for the two extra cylinders, and then another 2 for the auto. the remainder has a lot to do with how you drive your car.

If you want to avoid some of the problems you're seeing, looking for a J-VIN built accord. There is a higher chance they didn't source those sucky Bosch alternators (instead using a Denso as Buddha intended) and the assembly quality is alittle more uniform.

J-VIN accords =

Just sounds like you got a lemon. I don't think 6th gens are intrinsically that bad.

Man, people here seem to hate 6th gens. I love mine... The only real problem I ever had was the alternator. $30 for a used alt. from a junkyard, 15 minutes to change it, no problems since (100,000 miles ago)... Eh, what alternator problem?

But back on topic...

These are the averages I see for friends, family, and myself:
4-cyl, auto, in stock form, only occasionally heavy-footed... about 22-24mpg
V6, obviously auto, in stock form, only occasionally heavy-footed... about 21-23mpg average...
(all mixed city/highway)

The 6th generation had some troubles with automatic transmissions, but other than that they've been good.

On my '99 (bought new in '98) the only things that have gone wrong are the locks are acting up (have to lock and unlock by hand). That's it, other than oil changes and a radiator flush I did as part of routine maintenance, I haven't done anything to the engine and it's even still on the original battery.

VTECJedi, sounds like you got a lemon.
