Default How to Heat Cycle Drag Radials

I did search, but I'm didn't find a detailed post about how to do it. Maybe I'm not searching correctly. The best I found was taking the new tires for about 10 miles at 55-65mph and then slowly bringing it back down. Than put the car up on jack stands or take the tires off and let them rest for about 24-48 hours before using. Is this right? I'm a newbie at this.

I would do more than just drive around at 60 MPH for a while. You want to bring the tires FULLY up to temperature, then let them sit for 24-48 hours. I know the Tire Rack will heat cycle tires for you, and I have mine done at a local shop. Before heat cycling I would get 10-13 good passes out of them before the 60's would start to drop off. With heat cycling I can get around 20, and my 60's have gone from 1.41-1.43's to 1.35-1.37's.

I looked around on the net and most sites just keep refering that tire rack does it for $15, but I already knew that. One guy compared heat cycling them himself vs tirerack and the one he did himself had better wear characteristics. Anyways I came back with its best to do laps at a track, but since the track in my backyard isn't done being built yet [/sarcasm] the next tip I read was to to figure 8's in a lot to heat them up.

are we talking about drag racing?

ok here it is.....

pull the car thru the water and spin tires alittle, bring car 4-6 inches out of water , set trans brake and put in second gear, slip the clutch and drop it about 5k rev up and down from 5-6k as smoke starts to come off and u feel the car wanting to pull forward let brake off and rip it forward...

if udont have trans brake or line lock ur gona have to get use to heal to toe the brake and gas....second gear allows better rpm due to the higher ratio....this is a rwd car right?

bfg's at 12psi with little to no tread on them we were able to get 1.41 60' pretty often...i got 1.71 on fwd car with the same method....

are you talking about the first heat cycle?
or are you talking about getting them warm before each run?

i know how to do a burnout, i am wondering if it is necessary to heat cycle the tires to get better/longer grip out of them.

thanks in advance.

most drag radials u will be lucky to get 15k out of them, very lucky....
after the track i would bring mine up to 36 on a 44maxpsi tire and go from there.
the compound is not really gonna harden for street use just by figure8's or such..

even with tread on them there *** in any water on the road...

i was under the understanding that if you heat cycle the tires, they would last longer (how much longer? i dont know, but 3 more passes is better then nothing)

does anyone heat cycle radials before the first time they use them (not talking about doin a burn out before runs)
or do people just slap them on, go to the track, do a burnout at the track and go?

if all this is unnecessary, or im on the wrong track, please someone let me know.

thanks in advance.
