Need R owners Advice on #0413
Hi guys, this is my first post ever in the ITR forum and hope that it may just be the first of many. anyways, here's my question that I need advice from other R owners:
I have the chance to buy a 00 black ITR #0413 it has 87,000 miles on it and has new spark plugs, aem cai, dc 4-1 and a T1R titanium exhaust and H&R coilovers and a spare set of TSW rims. with all these mods the owner is asking 16,500$ firm. He is however, offering to sell the car without the mods (he will take them off) and sell the car in a 'stock' form for 15,900$
I currently drive a 2002 RSX with 21,000 miles that I'm sure I can sell for at least 14.5K$.
So my question to you R owners is, do you think it's worth it to buy this Type R with this much milage and sell my car?
What's the mileage other R owners on thier 2000 R's have? any problems that many of you guys encountered (mechanical problems) once your R got into those higher milage ranges?
I plan to keep the R as my Daily driver and the occasional recreational road course event.
I know I can wait for the possibility of another offer, but where I live, in Colorado, it's very rare to see a Type R, let alone find one for sale.
any input, advice is greatly appreciated and I thank you guys for your time in reading this.

If it's in good shape, yeah, it sounds reasonable. Make sure he's done all the maintenance (timing belt/waterpump at 60k, etc.).
Here's one that sold in a few days on Autotrader. '00, 76k miles, $16,000.

It was a good deal considering the maintenance was top-notch. It did have a lot of track miles, but the R seems to like it that way.
If you can get it for $16,500 and get all the OEM parts with it too, that's a good deal.

$16,500 is not too bad...even though it IS a FBP
Seriously, I'd definately get it checked out before hand (by a mechanic, carfax, etc.) If all checks out, I'd dump the RSX for an R. And for $600 more than what you can get it for stock, it would be worth it to get all the AM parts. Good luck.

My R is nearing 75k miles (many of these being track miles) and I've never experienced one problem :knocks on wood:. As long as all the maintenance was done correctly and the oil was changed on the proper intervals i would say $16.5 is a steal
The price is not bad...

But I would not keep it as a daily driver. It wont be a matter of if it gets stolen, but when. Buy a cheap beater car and make it your primary car on your insurance policy to go along with the R. Thats just my .02

I respectfully disagree. My R is a jack of all trades.
Of course, it depends on the location. Various parts of the west coast are pretty rough. My particular neck of the woods isn't very theft prone.

I'd say go shop around. 87k is alot of miles to be spending $16.5 even with the mods. You could probably buy a 00 S2000 with less than half those miles for a few grand more. Or you could buy my 2001 R with 42k on it with no mods for $20k. That's less than half the miles and a year newer for only $3500 more.
Seriously, i'd offer him $15k with the mods. Just my 2 cents...

Be carefull making the R your secondary. My girlfriend and I tried that with State Farm and they wern't going to have it. We wanted to make a Civic primary and the R secondary and they wouldn't allow it for loss reasons. The R became our daily driver after that and then it got stolen from a place we typically wouldn't have driven it.
I think he is asking too much for the car. Shop around, be willing to travel. I took a chance on mine. Bought it on eBay from a guy in TN and i'm in WA. If it didn't have the great description it did and a phone number so I could call him I probably wouldn't have bought it. It had 122000 miles and I got it for $10,100. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it. Ran great. Honda's run forever. Honestly I wouldn't pay more than $14500 (or so) for his car in stock form.
