Default Thieves messed up my ignition. Help.

I go into my car this morning and it was obvious somebody was in there. Put the key in the ignition and it doesnt feel normal when the key goes in and wont turn. Seems like they tried and shoved a screwdriver in there or somethin, dumbasses didnt get anything. But now my ignitions f*cked.

Whats it gonna take to fix it?

Damn thieves, im broke. Thanks for the help.

How much would a new cylinder usually run me?

And how big of a job to fix?

thanks

It isn't too big of a job but you will probably need new keys. The part is like 200 bucks or so.

its a pain in the *** of a job.

the ignition is held in with bolts that you cannot remove. You can get them off, but you gotta get creative.

you'll need a screw drive LONG and a hammer. some people use a cutting wheel and notch the bolt... i pound them loose hitting it at an angle until the screwdriver makes a notch and then hit them loose.

you'll see exactly what im talking about once you get the plastics off.

When I replaced mine I just cut slots in the bolts with a cutting wheel and it was relatively easy to remove. However, I agree that working on the dash or underneath it is a royal pita.

Thanks for the help, so other than those bolts, luckily i have a cutting wheel, is the job hard after that or pretty straight forward?

....like pretty much get it apart and back together with the new piece?

yeah its straight forward. take off the old put on the new....

you'll need to replace the ignition bolts that you notched with either a differnet set of regular nuts and bolts or try reusing the old ones.... i opted to just change it out for regular nuts/bolts which may not be the bes tthing to do because it makes it easier fo theives to remove the ignition, but thats all i had.

The new key lock is like $400ish from Honda. I bought one from a JY for $45 including 1 key. I have 2 keys for my car now, but saving $350ish is worth it IMO.

Does anyone know how to take out the ignition out of the housing... the one on my hatch is broken (the metal housing that holds the ignition) and I need to replace that.. or can it be done???

to take the ignition out of the housing, the correct way to do it is to turn the ignition to the first notch and then theres a peg around the rim that will push in, and voila, it pulls right out. however, if you can turn the ignition, you probably don't need a new one. i had to do this once, i drilled the peg out, pulled the ignition out, turned the little notch on the inside to where it would be on the first click , slid the new ignition in

pm me if you need more detailed info.
