Default Possible tranny problem?

About once or twice a week I have a hard time getting my tranny to go into reverse. The only way it will go in is if I pull forward a little. Every once in a LONG while, it will happen in 1st gear too. What causes this? Could it be a sycrod(sp?) probelm?

Im not quite sure where and what the sycrod(sp?) does, but is it possible to have them replaced if thay go bad?

Since when did a Honda tranny have a reverse synchro?
I've got 13 examples that say they never got one.

just be patient. press the clutch in pause for a second or 2 then try to put it in reverse again. Most of the time u have to just push the clutch pedal once or twice but be patient about it dont rupoo poo.

It is fairly common, and on my 00 GSR I have it happen once in awhile. Here's why (I think) it happens.

You're sitting at a stop with your foot on the clutch. The mainshaft is stopped, as is the inputshaft. You go to shift into reverse. The teeth on the reverse gear dog clutch just happen to be lined up exactly with the teeth on the reverse gear. "BUMP" they won't mesh. So, when you bugde your car forward, you move the teeth, and then when you reselect, it mates up and slides into gear. Same can go for 1st gear, or any gear you select while at a standstill.

Thats what I always thought it was until I started hearing about the syncro stuff. This makes mess ALOT better!!!! I was worried I was going to have to have my tranny tore apert to heve the sycros replaced.

Synchronizers, aka "synchros," are essentially clutches. They serve to match the speed of the inputshaft and clutch disc to the speed of the mainshaft before engaging the gear. As you shift, say from 2nd to 3rd, the synchronizer slows down the inputshaft and disc from the speed of the mainshaft times the 2nd gear ratio to the speed of the mainshaft times the 3rd gear ratio.
