I met a guy at a track day with an S2000 . He uses it, and swears by it. I use Mobil one, and I remember him telling me that the Amsoil was supposed to be better. I do recall him saying it was pretty expensive though. Give it a try.

Seems like every time the Amsoil question comes up the Amsoil fanatics come out and start preaching the gospel.

That alone has been enough to keep me from trying it.

I used to use it, and then everything I put it in began burning/leaking oil, so I stopped.

If you're doing anything that requires more protection than what Mobil 1 can provide, you are doing some SERIOUSLY hard driving. Amzoil is expensive and hard to find. Mobil 1 is cheaper and readily availible at any Walmart.

PRAISE BE TO AMSOIL!!

I sell and run Amsoil. Never had any problems and my motor and it runs strong. I've used the Engine FLush, 5w30, 0w30 and P1 Injector Cleaner. I buy my oil in a 4 qt. container too. Very convientent!!

I see motor oil as a personal preference. Just stick with one brand, don't mix them and you're fine!

There's nothing wrong with Red Line, Mobil 1, or even non synthetic motor oil for a TYPE-R.

Thanks,

I used amsoil once and when I changed my oil after 7k (instead of usual 3k) it came out clean as can be, but it's just too damn expensive. After the guy who sold it to me tried to "recruit" me I stopped buying it. If you want an honest opinion about amsoil ask someone who's used it but is not affiliated with selling it in any way. Speaking at a former MLM'er, you will never get an honest opinion.

I tried an additive called militec. the only reason I tried it was because I did a "bearing" test and after almost breaking the torque wrench myself I was sold. Well for about 20k afterwards my oil was always clean at change interval no matter how hard I ran it. I supposedly works for about 15k then you need to do the "treatment" again but I haven't been able to find a dealer.

I used to "sell" Amzoil too. The company is FAR more interested in you recruiting more people than having you sell their product. Can you say pyramid scheme? Amzoil - Amway? I got out as fast as I could.

Ditto, back before there were lots of other synthetic options. The product is better than the schemy distribution process suggests, I think, having seen lots of pretty solid quality data - shared by people I wouldn't trust to mow my lawn. Kind of a shame, actually. The most important thing that I learned might have been which non-synthetic brand was the best performer but that is old information at this point.

In the year that I "sold" this stuff, no data I ever saw directly compared Amzoil to Mobil 1 or Redline. It was always, standard Havoline, Penzoil, Quacker State in duifferent grades from what the Amzoil stuff was.

Never Mobil 1 or Redline, though.

Also, isn't it entirely possible for oil to LOOK clean, but still be full of tiny little particles because your oil filter got stuffed 4k miles ago?

Thank you for the Militec web site link.. That will be very helpful when I do my b16a1 swap in my rex. I'm also going to use it on my a/c unit and my tranny (after swap).
Yup.. after doing that bearing test myself I was struck with awe! I felt like I was on an infomercial...

127,000 miles...countless track weekends...even more autocross runs...commuter duty all its life too...still pulls like crazy. Mobil 1 since like 1000 miles.

6-7% leakdown.

Mobil 1 works.
