b16 altenator against crx engine bay?
we got the motor in. mounts in, just need axles and finish wiring(obd1).
anyways, looks like the altenator is not going to work...it cant be pushed all the way back like it should...it is hitting the driver's side engine bay wall.
so, at the current setting, the belt of course is too long. did you guys bang out the wall to make it fit? swap is an XSI b16.

hold on, get a smaller diameter alternator belt.. I didn't dent mine.. Same with a dozen other people on these boards.. its easier than trying to bang the thing in with the engine in the car.

I just did mine this weekend.. HCP mounts, B16a, 91 SI HB
I had to dent it to even mount up the alternator.
It wasn't too hard. I had to pull the intake manifold and alternator brackets off with the motor in the car. Only took about 10 SOLID whacks with a 10lbs sledge.
So it's not true that you can always compensate by adjusting the belt length. I HAD to dent it (not hard to do though)

I have done 3 b16a swaps. (1 for me and 2 for other people)
The 1st one in my sedan I dented the framerail since i was a newb to engine swaps. For the second two I used smaller alternator belts and they wroked perfectly.

What mounts? it may have been that I'm using HCP mounts...

DING DING DING.. I think HCP move the motor far enough back to make fitment an issue. Again, I tried w/o the dent first.

Actually, you want the engine further back. It leaves enough room for turbos, 4-1 headers, and A/C. Also, it pushes the weight further back not leaving the car nose heavy and has straighter axles.

i have hcp mounts and i had to do the same thing... i dented it out and apparently i didnt do it enough so i had to but a shorter belt as well and as of now it barely clears.

It also makes the engine closer to the firewall, which if your ever gonna go with itbs then your gonna have a problem. Guess it all depends on where your going with your engine.
