chipped p28 on a D16y8
I did a search but i did not find what i was looking for. I wanted to know would running a chipped p28 for sohc specs on a D16y8 with i/h/e and a cam be worth while or should I just save up for something bigger(ie. swap, turbo). Has anyone done this before on their D16y8, if so how much power did u gain.
thanks in advance.
thanks in advance.
it all depends, as far as my setup, i gained about 10whp + 7lb/ft of torque, on my D15b sohc vtec from a chipped ecu (gains are from 4000rpm on), low end lost some power, but then again you can use a switch and have a stock and race program on the same ecu
well if you just got the p28 and converted to obd1 you would allready have a obd1 conversion when you got a swap. and you wont have to worry about all the extra emissions crap.
I already have the D16y8 in a 97 civic ex. I was thinking about changing out the obd2 ecu for a chipped obd1 because with those they are easier to put a chip in and i would'nt have to get the piggy back computers to fine tune my car. U can also raise the rev limits and take out speed gov, which u can't do with the piggy backs. It just seems like a better package to me

yes but remember to run the obd1 ecu in your car you'd also need an obd2->obd1 adapter which is like $250... either that or have someone rewire the damn thing for you which would end up costing close to that anyway.
