correct name for a factory welded in body nut?
It's driving me crazy, but I can't think of the correct or commonly used name for a nut that the factory welds to a body piece. As an example, the nuts that the attachment bolts for the rear trailing arms go into. Or the nuts that the rear hatch struts attach to.
I keep thinking that it's just called a "weld nut".

Na, a "captured nut" is when the nut is loose, but within a box that holds it in place. The nut for the rear suspension compensator arm is a captured nut. The nut is loose, but can't rotate.

Thanks! Weld-nut was what came to my mind, but it just didn't feel right.
(and by the way, where is your shop?)

Interesting!!
I couldn't argue with the term "bung" at all. I do wonder what your history is that you would use that term? Normally I'd think of a bung as a welded (or brazed) fitting for fluid lines.

for the effort, but rather out of place for an obscure orange county choppers reference.

Wes V, I agree. My "history" as you asked for is, I started out in a Hydraulic/Pneudraulic facility(which is where I learned the "bung" term) and am now currently a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic with a focus on sheet metal repair and related fab work.
