Default I searched and experimented and it STILL isn't working

The stupid maintenance required light came on the other day so my first thought was to search H-T. Well....I did found what i thought i needed and go out to my car turn the key hold the button and that stupid light didn't go off. I keep trying it and it still doesn't go off. Somebody please give me a better explanation. Thank you.

press the button down, hold it down
turn your key in the ignition to the ACC position (or II or whatever it is )
keep holding the button down until the solid maintenance required light goes out

you're done

The light is yellow and says "maintenance required," right? Little button under the dash? This shouldn't be hard..
