I just noticed this today...i've had a problem with the drivers side foglight blowing the bulb every few months...i have tried fitting a new earth but it hasnt solved the problem. I think its being caused by a power spike as the bulb when it goes is completely black in the inside of the glass. Anywho today i was washing the car and noticed that the yellow glass globe for the foglight has started melting and now looks like this>>>>

I will stop using them now altogether as i dont want pieces of yellow glass lying in the bottom of the headlight. I may be able to get another light cheap tommorow but dont want to fit it till i find out why this is happening. BTW the headlight is not the original...when i got the car the drivers side had a chrome housing SiR-G headlight so i bought this one, is it possible the wiring is messed up on this light as i had no problem with the SiR-G light in the 6 months that i had it, so maybe if i fit another light the problem may go....any ideas????

Arghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! I went to take out the bulb and discovered that the globe wasnt melted but had broken off and was hanging down and so looked like it had ballooned with the heat.....so now the friggen thing is lying in the housing....i have sourced another light very cheap so gonna pick it up tommorow. The reason the glass globe broke was because when i replaced the bulb the last time it wasnt sitting straight and was touching the glass. I have replaced that freekin thing about 5 times in the last year and always always ensure its in straight but forgot the last time....so its my own fault
But that still doesnt solve the problem with the bulbs blowing.
01-0720 I sold the SiR headlight a while back

I managed to get a headlight today for $100 approx so wne i have this one out i might attempt to try the oven thing and crack it open and even if i mess up...who cares!
same thign happened with mine.. mine came with a broken yellow lens.. and i couldnt tkae it apart so i broke the yelow lens in the other headlight and then went and bought a set of PIAA H3 yellow ION bulbs and they look just the same.. sooner or later ill take them out and take teh headlights apart to get the broken glass out

Even though the glass is broken on mine there is still plenty left and the bulb still gives off the yellow light, i just hate havin that bit of the globe rolling around in the headlight housing.
I was just measuring the oven in my house and the light will NOT fit in it, so how else can i go about heating it to get the front lens off.... what about using a blow lamp...at a safe distance and being carefull nt to blacken/burn anything else??????????

I'd do about 200degrees.you gotta remember they get hotter than that w/ HID's as well as Hot summer days so don't sweat it.
thats what I did when I opened my STi lights to remove the reflectors.
200deg for approx. 15-20mins ea.Pull it out and try to pry it (making sure there are no screws holding it together)
I was lucky w/ my JDM ITR fog..it never blew or Poped off.
seen it happen quite a bit though!
take a chopstick in there and crush the bulb into tiny peices and vacum it out:
worst case senerio
