Insurance companies for covering a modified Type R
well, ive decided today that if i can find an insurance company that will appraise my car at a higher value then book and then insure it for that value, since i have a lot invested, then i will keep the R. Worst case, if it's stolen, it will be covered...
does anyone know an Insurance company that is pretty good that will cover my R for higher than retail book value?
i have state farm now and they only cover book value (18,500) plus my stereo and gauges and ****, they wont cover engine work, suspension work, or anything of that nature
thanks for your time

i used progressive, and they let you do a " declared value" they asked to have my car apraised. and they will insure it higher than blue book.
btw mine was apraised close to 30k but being that my premium would have killed me, i opted to insure it for only 20k
so for whatever happens and the cat gets tottaled they will cut me a $20k check.

good info...got to check up on that.. most insurance comp. will not cover aftermarket parts unless you have receipts of purchase and receipts as well as pictures of the parts being installed on the car (it helps to have your vin on receipt of the shop who installs the parts). ghey but true.. so if you decide to DIY better show the insurance agent and show pics.

My insurance company does not require receipts, just proof that you owned the modifications. If you don't have receipts, take pictures of the aftermarket parts installed on your car.
I have Travelers and I added an additional $9000 supplement to my policy. I could have added as much as I wanted and I just pay accordingly. I don't remember how much extra I pay but it is not very much.
Allstate covers any modifications that replace factory parts and are located in the same location. So most modifications are covered except the addition is a rear strut bar, or an amp for the stereo.
Oh, and yes, I have tested this; when I totaled my 2000 PY ITR.

I have Nationwide....I called them and asked them for additional coverage and I had to take my car to thier local office and had to list every modification done to the car and they took pics of all the parts....I got $15,000 extra coverage for all my parts for around 200 extra a year.
