Well I have heard alot about this and have been told it makes a big difference and the car pick's up faster.
So what does it altemetly do?
Is it worth it?

I have the ATS FD and lost only 1mph due to dropping in a GS-R 5th gear too
If you type in ATS in the search engine, you should find a LOT of info on it including my topic and BlackR's topic about our impressions of the ATS 4.929 FD.
It's the best money I ever spent on my car
yeah im not to worried about top speed anyway, after i get my jdm front installed my next upgrade is gonna be a set of 16's and new tires, then an ATS 4.929 and a lightweight flywheel
Talk to Mike at IPS Racing on this board (TypeRMsm). He is a great guy. I think he has 2 of them if i am not mistaken ready to go at the moment if they are not already sold. Best money i ever spent.

JDM = max. speed possible: 241 km/h (149,70mph)
USDM = max speed possible: 257-265km/h (160-165 mph)
Well,
but the R isn`t made with topspeed in mind....
The JDM will have the better bite from 4th to 5th.
I`m happy with JDM

Okay, our EURO specs:
ratio 4,785
1st 3,230
2nd 2,105
3rd 1,458
4th 1,034
5th 0,787
That`s JDM isn`t it ?
What`s USDM ?

So, USDM 5th gear reduction = 4.4 * .848 = 3.731
JDM 5th gear reduction = 4.785 * .787 = 3.7658
Just a small difference.... regarding top speed.

Small difference in top speed.
With the 4.785 F.D. on a USDM tranny =
JOY
Will

Yeah but making enough torque to fight the air drag.....
A stock JDM R I think would not take advantage of an USDM tranny
I'll just give you and some others a nice tool to play with,
It's set on the USDM ITR but, you can change every gear and the FD and even the tire/wheel diameter to figure out what it all will come out to in the end: http://www.autocrossing.com/cgi-bin/gearcalc.cgi
My summary, I chose the ATS 4.929 and Toda FW. That matched with my stock rims and 205/50/15 tires and I'll have a top speed of 139 MPH at a redline of 8400 RPM.
Install is next month, I'll be sure to post results.
There are a couple of different camps here on HT that are pro FD. While they are in agreement over the FD, there is a little discrepency about either choosing the JDM or the ATS. Ultimately the choice is yours...
