Default ATTN Transmision Gurus

I am going to install my ATS FD, flywheel, and motor mount inserts. I was hopeing someone who has done this before could fill me in on a couple questions...

1) What tools (becides your basic wrenches/sockets) am I going to need?
2) Is there anything else I should do at the same time? (Becides clutch)
3) Any secret ninjisu techniques (shortcuts) I should know?
4) How do I get girls to notice me?
5) How long should this install take two guys who have never done it before, without air tools?

THANKS!

Dylan

Get a Helms manual, and try to get some air tools, it will go much faster.

1. Snap ring pliers. Pipe (to use instead of a press on 5th gear). Three prong gear puller. Honda MTF. Magnetic gimmick to grab the ball bearing from the shift fork. A vise (another Type-R (CW preferred) works fine for this purpose). A good about of 2x4's for vise and to sit the tranny on. A torque wrench (obviously, stagger torque the bolts (30, 60, 74, etc). Uhmhhmhmhmmh.. that's all I can think of off the top of my head? Of, a punch to hit the nut at the end of the countershaft since you don't have airtools. (edit: oh yeah, at least two big fuggen hammers)

2. Flywheel, pilot bearing, pressure plate and throwout bearing in addition to the clutch disc.. hehe

3. Yes. Drink much beer. The cheaper the better.

4. Get a new hairdo and paint it pink (hot pink preferred) and your face green (lime green preferred).

5. 4-6 hours.

Dave: Thanks for the advice. A two prong gear puller will work, right? And could you describe your "magnetic gimmick" and its use? I don't want no suprises.

Oh ya, what diameter pipe for the fifth gear?

Type-Rare: I'll post my impressions when I'm done.

Craftsman # 45492 to spend the countershaft locking ring.

Helms for the reshiming!!!!!

The redneck way of pressing (ok HAMMERING!) on the gears is just a 30-32 mm socket used for the axle nut.

2x4's to support tranny and not damage input shaft

There are two ways to remove the ball bearings on the shift forks.. a magnet on a stick (auto parts store have these tools, whatever they are technically called ) or by removing the tranny housing and catching them as they roll out.

Ask D what diameter.. we took it from his crack pipe so I'm not sure.

I believe 2 inch thin wall pipe.

Air tools are not needed unless you use them to drink beer

2" thin wall is correct.

also, the final drive bolts are reverse thread. me.

i'd bump up dave's initial eta of completion to at least 10 hrs for a first timer... think my record is a little over 6 hrs.
