Default looked online on scca website, but am still not sure about what class

i have an 89 prelude 2.0 with header, exhaust, lowering springs, kyb's (although i just might swap over to koni's), just a k&n filter (not intake), and will be getting some strut tower braces soon. before i get some tires, will i be in street touring, or can the preludes not run street touring? the other question is, if i am in street touring can i run kumho v700 victoracers? or would that make it str?

You are legal for STS, SM and Street Prepared.

If the tires are considered an "R" compound then you bump from STS to STR.

I am not sure. I have done no research on them yet. I *think* they are Rs but I can't swear to it.

Kumho V700 Victoracers are not STS legal. They are considered R-compound. To be legal for STS, the tire must have a 140 or greater treadwear rating.

Doesn't it also depend on the type of header? CARB legal = STS and not legal = SM?

Thanks,
CB

The Kumhos you are talking about are considered a DOT approved race tire. These tires are not allowed in STS and will bump you to your appropriate Street Prepared class. STR class has been removed for 2002 in place of STX which is an all street tire class as well.

CB - The car simply has to be street legal. If your in a place that follows CARB ratings then I guess you would have to have a CARB legal header but most states do not abide by the CARB ratings (hehe- sorry about you Cali people). I haven't read the 2002 Solo book yet (when the hell is it going to get here?!??!!) but I don't recall this rule changing in any of the fast tracks.

Forgot one thing, this link is pretty good with having the rules and regulations up to date for Solo II,
http://www.moutons.org/sccasolo/Lists/2002/

Don't use it as a bible but you can use it for quick references. When in doubt always fall back to the offical SCCA Solo rules and regulations as well as fast tracks.

Carb legal header = an O2 bung. Seriously...that's all that will be checked for in STS/STX. You don't need to have a carb sticker anywhere on the header like people think.

Unless your in Cali where you need one just to run on the street or register your car.
