Default My rotors are rusted!! Recommendations?

My rotors are very rusty (96 Coupe Ex) and I am thinking I should replace them since the kit for OEM pads/rotors are $60 for front and $60 for rear.

http://www.secureleadercom.com...block

Can you tell me if this will fix my problem for the awful squeal I hear when my car is in reverse? I have brand new axles and CV joints/boots in the front but the brakes went right afterward. The rotors have never been replaced and this deal from tasauto (above) seems like a real good one so I'm gonna buy the front and rear kits because I see the rust from my upstairs window in my apartment thru my 18" rims on my Accord. Haha, its ugly!

Also, (sorry I'm rambling) this is the best thing to buy right? Not slotted or drilled? I've been reading on the forums a while and see many of you gurus don't like those "sport" brakes, its hype. What's your take on my situation?

Also, are there performance/integrity gains for the Brembo blanks over the OEM blank rotors? They appear identical to me online, but that's not much to go on?

are they rusted on the surface?....or is it rusted around the edges and chipping off (like my fronts are??? ) surface rust goes away when you drive the car.....just wanna make sure

brembo blanks are bascially OEM, except your buying them from brembo instead of honda, which means itll usually be cheaper

Rusted on the surface. But there's an annoying squeal from my brakes in reverse and I figured replacing everything at once would save me some trouble down the road. The tasauto.com Honda blanks are $60 with pads for both sides, and another 60 for the rear, same thing. The Brembos cost $40 for EACH rotor and no pads, a lot more expensive. I'll let Meineke install it or Sears and still wouldn;t pay as much as buying just the Brembo blanks w/o pads.

Go Brembo. I have some I ordered for my 96 EX but turned out not to be the problems so I have them incase I need the in the future and I went with Brembo's weather you go with blanks or preformance ones I would probably go with Brembo.

don't know how much you drive it, but yeah if you got rust then your calipers are seized

a little rust in the morning doesn't mean anything. even brand new cars do that. one normal stop cleans them right back up to shiny again. look at your rotors right after you arrive somewhere, not before you drive the car. if they're still rusted right after you arrive than you have a problem.

my car hasnt driven in about 6 months, my rotors were rusty, then i moved the car around and as promised above, they shined like they had never sat. As far as the calipers being seized, what are the symptoms for that, my car brakes as normal, would it grind if the calipers were seized?

You'd know if your calipers were siezed...when you let off the gas, you'd slow down quite quickly and your gas mileage would tumble.

The squeal you hear backing up is most likely the wear indicator on your brake pads telling you you need new pads.

That is not entirely true. If your slide pins freeze up it'll screw up your brakes as well, I had that happen once.

Why is only in reverse tho? That's the confusing part that makes me feel like I have a serious problem when the brakes squeal in reverse only and noise stops when I depress the pedal.

I bet there's nothing wrong with the rotors, they all rust like that after standing still for a while. The pads on the other hand, sound like they need to be looked at.

However, they would squeel in forward as well as reverse if the pads were worn down to the indicators.

If you get OEM Rotors they will rust just like the old ones. If you get knickel plated rotors, like my power-slot rotors, they won't show any rust. Brembo are good rotors too, but if you want better stopping power, you need some metalic or ceramic pads. Don't expect to stop quicker with the same OEM pads.

No, properly installed rear pads will only squeal backing up until they are down to damn near paper thin. When the indicator first starts squealing in reverse you still have about 10% pad left.

Thank you, I'm going to order new pads. Would you recommend Axxis? I was looking at some online but the Axxis Ultimate are out of my price range what pads would you recommend cheaper than that?? The Metal Axxis pads decent??

Unless you are a very hard driver, go with the OEM pads. Price isn't that bad and thay are what's designed for your car.

the rust is a purely cosmetic thing. don't worry about it one bit. yeah oem is the way to go. i'm actually running napa pads and i like em. they're really soft and make good power, not too much dust. no problems...since i work at a dealer i'll probably go oem next time.

Anyway I can fix that if that's the case? How will I know if my e-brake is too tight?? Were your pads bad too?
