Default Spoon Headers with 2 inch drop...

Is this a BIG risk at all for scraping the headers? I know people have dropped the car 1.5 inches and are running Spoon headers but how careful exactly do you have to be on hills, bumps, etc.? any info appreciated. thanks.

i'm at stock ride height with stock headers and i still scrape occasionally. i can imagine that the problem would me much, much worse if you're driving a lowered car with headers that hang lower than factory (i think...).

If you run a straight edge across the 2 bottom tubes of a Spoon header it will be 1-1/4" below the lowest part of the oil pan, that's in the vicinity of the drain plug.

Holy crap! How did you manage to scrape the stock header with the stock suspension still in place?!

I have a dumb question! How can you have Spoon headers on your car if you do not have a V-engine. I thought I-4's used a single header? Sorry, just curious.

Yes, I-4s use a single header...those that use the term headers are probably former V-6 or V-8 owners...(or they are misinformed)

heh...there are some really great roads around where i live, however, there are pretty severe elevation changes that if taken at even a moderate speedm, you will most likely bottom out. i'm much more carefull now

Just remembe that if the bodies of the replacement pieces are the same ength as stock and you lower any vehicle you are loosing compression stroke in the strut/shock and this isn't good for handling....bouncing through the turns.

I would be interested is seeing a pic too. I'm thinking of getting a spoon header but my R is lowered and I don't want to spend almost 900 on it if its just going to get ruined if I go over some bump.

I sometimes scrape now. Does that mean I'm messing up my stock header or just the bottom of the pan of what? (thinking of jacking car now to look).

Do many of you have the spoons with a lowered car? Mines a 1.5 drop.

Listen up people and I speak from experience, I have a 95 GSR with a Spoon Header with a 2" drop and I scraped it pretty nice.....thats why I got rid of it and now I have a Toda Racing Header....I'm so much happier with the Toda cuz now, I never scrape, and with the Todas header the car feels a bit faster than when I had the spoon.

I never really measured how low my car is, But its about 1.5" And the only time I scraped Was when i had an Off Road excursion, and when I drove through Boston and Hit a pothole. As Long as you are careful you will be fine.

Ok I have tein RA with around 1.5inch drop. The only time I've scrapped was when one my wheel hydro planed abit and that wheel went of the edge of the road is just scraped slightly. I think if you dented one or worse you probably come down hills or up steep hills to fast. Because if you scrap the header your probably scrapped the front lip on hills like that.

Agreed Mike,

I only slightly Tinged it, "you know what I mean," coming out of a parking lot a little too fast. No Dents, just a scrape on the elbow, "thank God for no dent."

Everyday use= No problem as long as you're careful, "I live in NY and the roads here Suck Major *ss!"

Track use= No problem yet!

Ya just gotta be careful. I've seen some HS kids in their cars do Stupid Sh*t tearing out of inclined roads and sliding into gas station lots. Just don't do that! Should I even have to say this?

Anyways Mike's right, and his car is lowered.

Mines stock height and I have very little worries.

A.

Please somebody stop bringing this up and making me all paranoid. I was so set in getting the Spoon springs but after hearing people scraping their header riding with stock height, I think I've changed my mind about lowering the car.
