Default Short "RAM AIR" Intake Suggestions

Any suggestions as to how to get that much needed outside cold air blowing directly onto a short ram intake; specifically 4th gen ludes. Im thinkin about using brake ducting/tubing to funnel the air from the front bumper next to the inner turning signal up through the stock intake cutout and onto my filter. I would just have to cut out that little non-painted piece of plastic next to the bumper light on the inside edge. And get about a 6x2 inch rectangular funnel to collect the air into the tubing. You would abviously also have to remove the stock air box canister from the inside of the front bumper. Any better, cleaner suggestions, or maybe even websites or stores to find the parts. Any pics would also help aswell.

if you put a temp sensor with some kind of a remote display inside the car (like those indoor/outdoor temp displays), you will find that when the car is moving, the air temp next to the battery is pretty much the same as the ambient air temp.

He is right. ^^

If there is any difference, it is very minimal.

I am sure someone has already done what you're wanting to do.

Im gonna have to disagree because when im driving on a hot day half the time ill step on the gas and ill have zero power and throttle responce because of all the heat soak, but if outside air (which is obviously colder than engine bay temps) is blowing past the air filter than not only will it be sucking up cooler air but itll keep most of the hot engine air away from the filter.

It sounds like what ur saying is that the theory of OUTSIDE air blowing past the filter AKA Cold air intake is no different than the air around a short ram filter when the car is moving. Somehow i doubt that.

Someone actually did a test on both CAI and short ram. Of course the car will respond better in different weather, but that's not the point.

I will not force you into believing us. Just wait until someone comes in and own you.

I suggest ram air style CF hood and removing the right side headlight for day driving.

Off to lunch.

For daily driving, keep a filter on the car. I have seen more power made wit a cold air intake than with a short ram. Diameter and length of the piping does make a huge difference on the Prelude and can make a difference in midrange power. Get a diameter 3" either short ram or CAI as a minimum.

As far as "ram air", CollectiveRacing/Iceman is developing a set up for the 4th gen Accord currently which is nearly a direct shot into the TB. It doesn't use a filter and intended for track use only. There will be a short ram/CAI version also, but it is for the Accord. The prelude version will follow shortly.

CAI's make more power due to harmonics, not air temp. Personally I find it a lot harder to believe that hot air gets trapped in the engine bay, than believing the temp is almost the same inside and outside. The air is only in your engine bay for a very short moment (unless you aren't moving), and your block isn't going to heat the air significantly that fast. I'm with sticky tires on this one, short ram + no headlight.

If you've got some fiberglassing skills, you could work up a setup similar to that EG civic headlight replacement air induction, although you'll run filterless as a result.

Was that by iceman? i don't remember..

Dyno numbers are just that, dyno numbers. Its tough to test an intake because they really do their job while the car is moving.

good gains can be seen from using an air horn on the end also.....
maybe something could be worked into the ram to have a filter.....filter is necessary.....
