Default HELP!! My amp will turn on, then off a second later.

just installed it tonight. It gets plenty of power, same to the amp as at the battery. Good ground, and everything else is hooked up good. my brother even had the same problem on his set up, what happens is it will turn on then a half second later you can see the power light fade away. WHATS WRONG?! is my amp busted or what?

maybe the fuse on the wire where it connects to the battery is old

Check if
1) one of the speaker wires touches the metal. Speaker contacts are a good place to start looking at.
2) Amp 12+ wire is too thin and too long = high resistance = not enough power for the amp
3) Bad grounding.

Do you have the remote turn on wire hooked up?

that actually sounds like a bad connection, either that or an internal short...

well i considered the connection problem. But when I measured voltage I got 12.51 at the battery and at the amp.(providing i measured it right) But someone was saying high resistance, would that affect volatge? By the way, I'm useing the only wire i had, which isn't very thick, i don't know the gauge. It was red wire i got at radio shack, the thickest they had I think. But then its spliced into another wire and that is spiced into the inline fuse which i might add is twice as thick as the other wire i'm using.
Yes the remote wire is hooked up. but I only had 12gauge speaker wire. I just tore the + and - side apart and splice them togather. Its worked in the past. THe fuse is knew and working as well. And everything is hooked up with out bare wires showing. I guess i need to replace the power wire with ONE single wire and a good gauge. But my amp is only 300watts and this setup i'm using has worked befor...I'm so confused???

honestly, I would consider buying a amp kit from someone online...at least an 8ga, and then taking it to someone that can warranty their work. Not that I'm saying that you're not capable, peace of mind is great .

eh, amps are real easy to install. Thats not the problem. My brother tried hooking it up to his Accord. He took out his working amp, and put mine in its place. Just to see if it was my wireing job or not. Still did the exact same thing. He runs a much bigger amp then i do and doesn't have a problem. His wires work fine, are big enough, no problems there. So I belive its the amp just having gone bad. Anyone know why this may happen or how to fix it?

i think Jensen, only 300 watts.
What really sucks is that amp is all i have to power 2 MTX Thunder 4000. What do you think would be best for those because at this point i'm thinking of just getting a new amp.

Where did you buy it? It sounds like you just got it if you just installed it of course you may not be like me and install stuff as soon as you can after getting it. Profile seems to have good sub amps that are cheap if you get a new one.

i've had it for about 5 years. its been in about 3 or 4 cars i think. I had it in this one before but took it out for mountain races. i dominated all but one of my friends in the mountains, i was so fast, and kicked so much ***. Now i'm on probation for unrelated things and can't race anymore in the mountains. So the system is going back in.

Better place to put any money you would have to spend on repairing a 5 year old Jenson amp 94
