Prep for Track events? What do you do?
Hey guys...just wanted to ask a couple of questions on how to prep for a track event. What do you usually need to bring? Set of tires, oil for oil changes, break pads, spark plugs, ????? Also, is it better to race with your ABS disabled or is it all a matter of preference?
1. Bring a ground sheet - to put all your stuff on (in case the ground is dirty or in case it rains)
2. Toolbox with basic tools you will need for servicing your car
3. Cellphone (to call tow truck in case anything happens)
4. Food and drink (bring your own stuff - most stuff available at tracks is limited)
5. Folding camping chair
6. Tire pressure gauge (a GOOD ONE)

I wouldn't touch your ABS system. It can actually save your hide. If it is your first track event, you will most likely not boil your brake fluid or go through pads. (Unless of course you are a great driver and do very fast laps for your first time at the track). But, bringing pads and fluid is a good idea anyway.

I'm suprised I didn't get sick after standing out in the rain for 2hrs working the autox...

What I bring besides what the bone head above said is brake pads, brake fluid, oil, tire gauge and if you have it, your own compressor(I use a cheap walmart cigarette lighter kind)extra tires are good to have I come with the ones I race on and leave with them. A jack and jack stands, rags, windshield washing fluid, gasoline(the gas at the track is expensive)unless yo can drive out lunchtime to get gas. Also I like to tape up my lights and some guys do the whole front of their cars and side mirrors, torque wrench and of course tools. Make sure you have your wheel lock gizmo and *****. Also, I've never disabled the ABS's

Some tracks make you tape up your lights so that in case you crash - broken glass doesn't go all over the track.
Another thing you can bring is cat litter. It's good for cleaning up fluid spills. (another thing they will make you clean up if you crash)

i'm surprised nobody has mentioned shoes. wear relatively narrow, flatbottomed shoes...it also helps if the bottoms are relatively soft. after 10 years of wearing driving shoes, i'm not even sure if i could go back to improper footwear.
I found this to be a pretty complete list. Maybe too complete.

The most important track preparation is:
A good night of 9 hour sleep.....I can't remember how many times I told myself at events that "wish I had more sleep"

everyone seems to have covered all the necessities here
especially pads and fluid...I also have the power bleeder, definitley my simpson shoes, 2 different sets of tires for varying conditions, EZ up tent, FOOD and DrINK ( water ) coolant, tire pump and temp gauge,...and alignment tools...
I go a little crazy at the track I guess

haha. I felt pretty good regardless. I was happy on the track and at the clubs at night.
One time I was rooming with White Dragon and he didn't want to go out.
I went out by myself and had a damn good time.
I got back to the motel @ 3:30am and didn't want to wake him up, so I slept in my R.
haha.

Pack energy bars and gatorade.
Take weather protection. Standing in the roasting sun w/no sunscreen nor hat or standing in the pouring rain w/o a coat and umbrella....
Be smart and learn and have fun!
