well i used to use a 100 shot , and it happened to me when the throttle was not wide open , but all i lost was a throttle plate and iac valve , and a map sensor , lol

is it just when detonation ignites the whole n2o/fuel mixture? were you at low rpm?

I've heard that it has some thing to do with the fuel puddling? I'm really not sure. I would think it would be a combination of not retarding the timing, and spraying too early...?

Hrm...
I definetly think the stang blew up because he sprayed way too early, with the nozzel too far from the TB. In the Vid, theres a part where he holds up the Intake tube and theres a huge hole melted into it...obviously the fuel puddled...but I've always been told that liquid fuel won't ignite...
Anyone know EXACTLY why nitrous sometimes backfires?

Same reason a lit cigarette wont ignite a pool of gasoline..

He sprayed the nitrous too early, the motor wasn't bringing in enough air to pull all the nitrous and fuel into the cylinders, fuel starts to puddle, you get any kind of a small backfire (which happens all the time) and your upper intake is basically a bomb. Generally you don't want to spray before anywhere from 3000-4000 RPM's with a single nozzle nitrous kit, depending on your motor and intake you're using.

I thought it was stylish to replace floorboard with diamond plate floormats. Damn

I have seen something very similar happen to a mustang at Rockingham dragstrip in North Carolina. It blew his intake up also. I have heard that the fuel puddling is pretty common on the Mustang intakes? I dont know I used nitrous for awhile on my sohc coupe about 5 years ago and never really had a problem with it other than I annihilated a spark plug once.
That was cool video though pretty big explosion on the top of that engine haha

It is, You just need to make sure that you bolt them in tight so the nitrous doesnt blow them off..
