find some kind of niche market where there is enough demand to keep you busy but not enough where there is a lot of aftermarket support by larger companies. look hard enough and those kind of opportnities are out there.
if I were you I would chose a different target market. Like vw/audi. Not many people make anything good for the 1.8t and s4's and those that make anything charge and arm and a leg. I think full-race is the only guys that actually make a nice looking manifold for the 1.8t's

I'd stick to a local business until you figure out how to run things smoothly, especially if you're still going to school. Renting a small shop, provided that you have all of your own equipment, and doing a couple of cars a month would turn a profit.

as a marketing guy id say thereis WAY to many products of the same kind out there. And unless you come up with a REALLY solid reason why your products are better you barely going to be able to cover costs

i think that there realy needs to be a bigger market as far as affordable tranny parts, like gear sets and final drives and such. and maybe a rotary specific market, billet rotors, out put shafts and a nice swap kit for a 13bt into a mx5
If you have all of your own equipment and a place to work thats not costing you (parents garage) or whatever why not try? If you don't have to make a huge investment then there's not much to lose. This venture could provide you with some spending cash while you are in college. The experience its self could be well worth the effort even if you don't get rich.
The honda market may be saturated but there are other niches out there. And even within the honda market if you can beat the competition with price, quality or service then you should be golden..
I think its already a good sign that you are already listening to what people may want/need.
Its not going to be easy, but making money seldom is. Anyway good luck..
