People concerned too much with HP and not with traction?
I see people making 600+ whp and running low 11's...and it just doesn't click for me.
A local acquaintence of mine making 360 whp ran an 11.68@118. I see people on here making 600 whp and running 11.2's@130+ I mean...sure 600 whp has to be awesome in 5th gear, but you're still only clicking off a time .4 tenths faster. I think personally people need to be more concerned with traction and less concerned with making insane power.
I mean im new to boost...only been running boost for about two weeks now. I love it and I plan to run a 11.50, but I dont think I need 450 whp to do it. I think 350 should let me run an 11.50....
I suppose I just dont understand the big race to make the most power. No one has really capitalized on traction in fwd. Full-race makes kits for traction bars, and OMNI makes coilovers, limit straps, wheelie bars(traction bars whatever you want to call it) I think there has to be a good way to hook up. And we should be more concerned with traction than making power. People in SFWD are making 800 whp, but cant make the times that cars with less power are putting down.
So, whats the best 60' times teams have been pulling in ProFWD, and what kind of 60' times are people in SFWD pulling. And HOW in god's green earth can we get a fwd car to hook the **** up

i dont think it's that easy to just say ok if i buy these parts my traction problems would be solved. it takes lots of time/practice/patience to get the suspension setup dialed in right. sure with 350whp you can run mid 11's and have killer 60's but not be that competitive in the sfwd/t4 class. let's face it... if your clickin off 11.5's@118mph there's a limit on how much traction will help you go faster. but if your clickin off 11.5s at 140mph you know there's 10's in your future. it's just gonna take practice. i'd rather have to spend more time at the track practicing my launches then having to go change my turbo setup to try to get more power.
Well i think it comes down to the amount of information available when it it comes to to setting up suspenion and tranny for 1/4 mile and good traction. If you look at it there's tons of information about turbos and engine components. A basic manual on how to make power. We need more information and discusson around suspension setup and traction. LSD is not the be all and end all of good 1/4 mile times ...!!!!!
I absolutely agree and traction is very important to me too. Whats the point if you can't put it to the ground right?

It seems everyone wants to have the biggest and the baddest IMO *cough SUPRAS cough*. After said super # is made the search for traction starts. My sub 300whp car doesn't have much traction in lower gears, but my car is slow compared to most in here.
I prefer to K.I.S.S. method to most things.

You can go 11's w/ 350whp NO PROBLEM!!! 120mph trap speed can get you low 11's if the car is set up and driven correctly. Your right though, alot of people just get the dyno #'s and they forget about the rest of the car. Just remember tire is the most important thing.

It's not cool when your 600+whp car gets smoked by a 350whp car though.

And wider is ALWAYS better.

Oh, either converting your car to RWD or scrapping FWD altogether helps too
(Ive done both!)
The S is not a drag machine although Im betting if I didnt destroy the rear end with a good launch itd be mid 12s

I have been saying this for years, I have been to many races and seen these guys with 5 6 and 7 hundred hp cars that are running crapy times. Then there will always be that one person who bearly has 400 horse that runs better then most people there.Personaly i would rather have a 300 or 400 ho car then a high hp car because you can dial the lower hp car in alot eaiser.Don't get me wrong I would love to be able to go to the local dyno with my front wheel drive 4cly car and put down 800 horse but to me unless you have endless amounts of sponcers or money its just not worth it, when 400 horse can yield 10 second slips and still be a good daily driver that is some what reliable.

traction => that's the way, aha, aha, I like it
agree that the WHP is not everything
on my 95 Civic I got 205/40/R17's with "AA" traction up front .. and I don't spin tires that much. Well, I don't have that much WHP as well, but still ... The bad thing is that those don't hold long time .. My rear ones are with "A" traction only (same size)

IIRC SFWD/T4 is limited to 25" slicks and no wheelie bars, so if you want to go faster add more power. I have NEVER seen anyone on here with over 600 WHP in a light car (civic, DC2, etc) run mid 11's at only 135.

That's not from a lack of traction, that was a whole slew of problems. Slipping clutch, bogging when shfiting, AND the lack of traction, he didn't go 11.2 @ 130 just because he was spinning like a bitch. 600-odd WHP with a good clutch is 140+ MPH even in an SI like that.

i know, i was there

You can never have too much power. The main thing is people not using it wisely. A simple 2-3 step boost controller can help get you out of the hole and add power as you need it. 600whp off the line is useless, 300whp in 1st is controlable.
I really can't say what 600whp is like though since I make do with under 300whp. If someone wants me to try out there car i'll be more than happy to give it a shot
