Default OT: Any interest in something like this?

One of my girlfriend's classmates just blew the engine in her '89 240SX. Do y'all think there would be a market for this car for track use? It's a 5 spd, would just need a motor rebuild or swap. I wish I could buy it myself, but can't afford this for a project...

How does one go about selling something like this?

a 240SX driven by Bob Stretch is a major front runner in ITA....
If you wanted to sell to those folks, put it in the classifieds on Improvedtouring.com.

There are a lot of people looking for 240sx's w/ blown motors. Thanks to our good friends in the glossy, model-filled import magazines espousing the joys of $2000 (um - more like $5000) motor swaps for the 240, every kid w/ naaaws is looking for one.

I know a few people who are hunting now and can tell you that posting on the 240 board at Freshalloy.com, the chat and for sale oens at Zilvia.net, or the classifieds on 240sx.org would be your best bet for finding these people. Drop me a line and I can help pupoo poo if you want.

BTW: hatch or coupe? what kind of shape is it in? (not that my 240 isn't enough of a project already).

ABTW: if the person is intersted in doing a bit of work and getting maximum $$, you can pick up a used KA motor (the stock one) for dirt cheap from people swapping in SR (Japanese turbo) motors. Price varies b/n "haul it" and $1000 for a late model, sub-50K mi. version w/ tranny.

I think there is definitely a market for a car like that. I'd be very interested if I could afford it! Maybe a classified at http://www.improvedtouring.com would be a good starting point.

You might also consider advertising it to someone who wants to do a SR20DET (JDM 200+hp turbo version of the 2.0L SE-R motor) swap, which is pretty popular these days. I don't know of any S13 240SX boards offhand, but I'm sure an ad would get some attention at http://www.se-r.net or http://www.sr20deforum.com ...

Hope that helps,

Jon

Sweet! Thanks for the feedback, y'all

Car is located in Greensboro, NC. All I know about it is that it's an '89, 5 speed, bad motor. I will check it out this week and get pics. Like I said, I'd make it a project car if I could afford it. Keeping my three current vehicles on the road is bad enough

Jon - IM me, if you're definitely interested.

I'm kinda in the same boat. My sister in law has a 240 fastback that's about to die. I'm thinking about picking it up when it does and doing something with it... of course, I'm out of garage/driveway space now as it is.
