Default adjusting omni coilovers.

Alright, I installed my omni street coilovers the other day, and can't figure out how to adjust them at all. I preloaded the spring like it told me to, allowing for the top nut to become flush with the bolt, and then raising the spring and perch ect.

Then I installed all four corners and loosened the lower collar lock so i could adjust it.

Lowered the car back to the ground and was not happy at all with the height. So like the instructions say, I took measurements, raised the car back up and turned the entire shock body until it eventually would not go any lower. (this was on the front passenger side). Dropped the car back down, and it was basically at the same height.

So it says, that I am not supposed to adjust the height from the upper spring perch. But if I cannot adjust the height with the upper spring perch, then how do i lower the car?

what am i doing wrong here? im pulling my hair out as ive been without a car for 2 days now!! grr!!

thanks

You lowered the shock body all the way into the lower collar? (the threaded part all the way down into the gold part?) I'm just trying to clarify.

I'll bump this old thread because I am kinda wondering too. I have yet to install my omni setup, but it seem like the way that the directions say to adjust wouldn't do much adjusting.

I remember when i instaleld mine a few months ago, my height always looked the same no matter how much i adjusted it. I wanted to raise my height and i kept turning and turning and after i lowered from the jack it was the same height. Now months later, i cant turn the collar anymore now that i want to try again.

One issue we experienced with this sort of height adjustment is that the spring perch and collar tend to turn along with the shock body sometimes, and sometimes it won't. So you are potentially moving the spring perch up the same distance that you are moving the entire shock body by turning it.
I started doing this: Go ahead and put the coilovers on your car, loosen the top 19mm nuts until they are flush with the top of the piston rod, but do not move the spring perch lock/spring perch/spring upwards. Instead, lower those parts down until the spring has a bunch of room between it and the top mount. At this point, adjust your heights by turning the entire shock body. If you see the spring moving upwards, lower it down, don't let it lock up. You will find that the entire shock body turns much easier I think. After you've adjusted the desired amount, screw the spring perch lock/spring perch/spring upwards until it comes in contact with the top mount, and tighten just a little bit more, making sure there is no up-down play in the spring, and you feel a good amount of drag as you try and turn the spring by hand. It should turn a little, but not easily. Don't tighten it too far.
Instead of throwing the wheels back on, dropping the car and measuring at this point, measure from the center of the wheel hub to the top of your fenderwell arch. I've found that, on most of our cars, if these heights are equal (front driver's side = front passenger's side, rear driver's side = rear passenger's side), then ride height is either equal when you drop the car, or off by mm's. If being off by 1 or 2 mm's bothers you, go ahead and correct this. IMO, its nothing.
I see why Omnipower writes their instructions the way they do, and theoretically it is the right way to adjust ride height, but in practice I've not found this to be the case.
