I have 4 mint del sol wheels(fat five lookalikes) i did one about a week ago and am in the process of finishing the other 3 today. what i did was...

i cleaned the rim, sanded down any imperfections so it was all smooth,

cleaned the rim again and taped off the lip(cuz i want black w/ shiny ring)

and i began several coats of black krylon fusion waiting about 10 minutes in between. i put about 9-10 coats. it looked awesome so i let that dry for a while and i put 2 coats of krylon triple thick crystal clear glaze clearcoat again waiting 10 minutes in between coats. so after 24 hours i took all tape and newspapers off the rim and it looked great!

now a week or so later after maybe 4 drives back and forth to work, the paint seems to be fading because the stock finish is showing through in the crevices/holes, there is a chance that its not the stock finish showing through but it might be the dried up clearcoat. i tried wiping it off with a rag but its smooth. so now as i am in the process of painting the second rim i am wondering whether or not to put clearcoat, i have already sprayed it with black krylon fusion and its done. should i leave it or what?
