98 Civic EX stereo install: A bit of help
The OEM CD player by the cupholders on my 1998 Civic EX sedan has finally crapped out. I've got a deck already (the deck from last Civic).
I don't care about the keyless entry working because A)It doesn't work now and B) I'm putting an alarm on the car. (I've done the whole keep the OEM keyless entry/dome light install before).
The new deck is going to go where the OEM deck is. I'll get the pocket to replace the OEM CD player. Here are my questions:
1) What harness will I need?
2) I assume I'll need the plastic shroud to go around the perimiter of the new deck so there isn't a nasty gap around the edges. (I don't have the one that came with it anymore). Can I buy one somewhere?

It's an aftermarket deck (a JVC). It was also in a 1998 EX Civic, but I put it down by the cupholders and didn't put the shroud on it.

Go to your local JVC dealer, to get the parts you need, the adpt. harness is HA02, [Scosche] but Metra, Best, and others make them, did you not use one in the last Civic?

by shroud, I meant the trim along the faceplate.
This deck was in my 98 Civic EX coupe and I kept the keyless entry and such, so I had to buy that one harness that allowed for two stereos. Basically, I wanted to make sure I didn't need another special harness for the 98.

I kind of though it was the trim ring, again find a installshop that installs a lot of JVCs, [dealer] the trim is not user on most Toyota installs, [ISO mount] and they like in my shop, may have a box full of them, take the unit with you when you go and check to see if they have one, and you can go to a JVC warranty repair shop and order a new one

on the passenger side of the radio will be two holes and and unfilled area, use this from metra to cover it:

part #: 89-30-7891
also found in dash kit: 99-7898 (but this has lots of stuff in it you WONT use.)
harness is just a straight up 98+ acura/honda harness found anywhere. ignore the second green plug that went to keyless entry module, shape is different, no chance for error.
wish every car was that easy.

will make for a cleaner install and save you the trouble of covering the holes
