When i picked it up

pressure washer with some castrol super clean mixed in. then some high temp aluminum paint gets it like that rather trouble free. Only thing that wont take care of is rust and corrosion, for that use metal etch and a wire brush
I bet your arms are ******' ripped now. I wouldn't be surprised if that took you well over 6 hours of solid work to get the block that clean if you did that all by hand with no parts washer or anything like that.
better protect it with something HI TEMP.. or all that hard work will look like **** once that aluminum oxidizes!! go buy some Duplicolor hi temp clear coat! i think its 500F i know most of the colors come in 1200F but im not sure about the clear.. do it up and make it STAY clean and shiny!

This would have been easier...
But nice work
Looks 100000x better!

yea it was pain in the *** and i know i could have done it lot easier like beat blasted or hot tanked. But i was bored so i just did it all by hand. a tooth brush some weird *** chemicall that my dad brought home i think it was like a industrial degreaser and after all I took a dremel to it.
clean clean clean....i like it. Im gonna be re-freshing a gsr block soon for my build. Im not goin by hand like you though, prolly pressure wash/hot tank it, then scuff it up and paint it Aluminum color with lots of clear.

I used a industrial grade deagreaser that my dad brought home in a gallon bucket but im sure there alot of other good degreasers that will work just as good. If you have a pressure washer that will help out big time. I didnt. I found using a tooth brush worked out very well to get into spots. When i got pretty much everything off i took a drill with a soft wire brush and cleand up a bit more with that. The rest was all done with a dremmel.
