Default Problem with RSX type S...

whats up RSX lovers..
ok so my buddy just calls me with a problem he's been having with his rsx type s. he garaged his car over the winter and when he went to start it now in the summer the battery was dead. no big deal, so he jumps it and its all good... but then he tells me that his vtec engagment has been acting up, like it wont engage, and he's having problems with his automatic windows, and also his car alarm is acting up. He also told me that the battery was dead when he went out to his car from after work.
the first thing that came to my mind is that his battery is going out on him. so i told him to bring the battery to autozone or some **** to see if it was goin out on him. you think that could cause this problem? It just seems like a weird problem witch i havnt heard to much about and i thought that maybe you guys might have had a similar problem or might know whats goin on..

well he just called me like 2 sec ago and that was the first thing that poped into my mind to go get it checked out... so i guess i'll have to wait and see if the battery could be the problem..

anyway any help would be appreciated. thanks guys

Noel

Is the car warmed up when he's trying to get vtec to engage?

After a car has been sitting for a while it is entirely possible that the battery could just need to be replaced or recharged fully without being in the car running, this happens all the time at dealerships. The battery could effect the alarm if the alarm has been depowered and stuff over and over again. As far as the windows go, what is the problem he's having with them? Just saying theres a "problem" doesnt say much...are they not rolling down? rolling down slowly? Getting stuck? What?

to properly store the car for long term, u should unplug the battery. the car's electronics draw current from the battery even when the car is turned off and key is out.

the auto window needs to be reset because of the power failure. push the window down and hold for 10 seconds after the window reaches the bottom. then, push the window up and hold for 10 seconds after the window reaches the top. that'll reset it.

power would probably also affect the alarm too. not sure what problems he's having. probably things just need to be reset.

as for vtec, the engine needs to be totally warmed up. indicated by the temperature guage on the dash being in the middle of the two spans. vtec will not engage when the car is cold.

there's a whole list of things u should do when you store the car long term. betting he didn't follow the list. unplugging the battery is on there.

I stored away my 2000 civic SiR for winter and i never had problems. What you mentioning is stuff that would happen to a car if you dont take the right precaution and it wouldnt just apply to a RSX type S. I stored my car in my garage but i still Turned it one at least once a week if that. I didnt un hook anything or jack it up or whatevermost precautions are. If you let the car sit for 6 months in a garage without starting it, unplugging the main wires , the battery, stuff like this could happen as mentioned by other members about resets and so on. For the vtec not engagin?!!!! well that could be a whole other problem.. could be the car might take a good solid week or so before the vtec feels right or works.. The first thing i did after leaving my car for winter was take it to shop and do a full tune and inspection to make sure everything is running good. I suggest the same.
