b16a in 91 civic overheats only in traffic???????
Hey all got another question, I have a overheating issue in my car, I have notice that the dam cooling fan never kicks on, put another fan on it and it still never comes on. I checked the wiring back and it wiouls appear to be intacted. So recently my CEL light has been one and i followed the helms manual and it said to replace the ecu, do you guys (or girls) think that when i replace teh ecu it will kick the fan back into working, I thought this was controlled but the thremo switch on the back of the block. Well TIA for any info
no buit the thing is the fan doesn't come on at all, even after replacing with a known good fan. the cap and themostat have both been replaced too...?
replace the fan relays....... that was the problem on my cousins car after we did his b16a swap...also make sure to get all the air pockets out of the engine....
sounds like the relays are the problem if you have a know working fan.....follow the wires from the plug in on the fans it will lead you to the relays for the fans..

Wire it up to come on right when the car comes on, thats what I did with mine. I wired it to a hot wire on the harness in the engine bay, and grounded it on the body, ran it to the fan, and bam. It works. Try that, 10 minutes and some speaker wire will do it.
I did pretty much the same thing, only I ran the wire inside to a dash switch so I can manually turn it on and off. I doubt it's your ECU though. I think my problem is the temp sensor in the rad is gone. To test it try this: jack up the car, turn the key to on (or run, don't remember), but don't start it. Unplug the two wires that go into the bottom of the rad (should be near the drain plug) and jumper the two wires together. The fan should come on when they are jumpered, and go off when they are not. If that is the case, the sensor in the rad is bad, and you can either replace it, or do what I and /or the previous poster mentioned.
Thanks for the info all, mani sucks having to run the heat full blast to cool the engien in FL traffic, i was die'en, i'll try the sensors then i will rig it to a switch after that, thanks for the input all
