ECU and VAFC
An ECU controls the air:fuel mixture, correct? VAFC VTEC air fuel "c". Does a VAFC do the samething as an ECU but for a VTEC or is it a completely separate part? Is a VAFC a kind of ECU?

The ecu dose more then control air fuel. It adjust according to the O2 sensor read out. a vafc allows you to modify the amout of fuel going to the motor at certain RPM's. Basically bypassing the ecu's voltage sending to the injectors, and running them thru the afc and then modifying it. The Vtec part allows you to also bypass the factory ecu's vtec engagement point to your own likeing, or where the most power is made at. all motors are different so leave it at stock. Also dnt attempt to change any of the settings untill you A get on the Dyno, B. Get a wide band, C. Have another motor sitting around to put in.
Any wire in type converter is not a ecu but more aof a piggy back system (poor mans Stand alone.) A Hondata, Micro tech, Haltech,etc, etc are stand alon ecu's. A VAFC, AFC, SAFC, etc, etc, are consider piggy backs because you are still running the stock ecu, just "tricking" it into thinking and doing something else. Sorta like a chip but better. And a chip is just a porr mans Piggy back.
I definately agree...... mess with that stuff yourself without a dyno and you're asking for a blown engine.
BTW:
ECU = Engine Control Unit
V-AFC = Vtec / Air Fuel Converter
