Default Put new wheels on, and now unusual sound?

I put my summer rims/tires on and now i have this unsual sound, the sound changes with speed like its the tire, but i thought it might have been the wheel bearing. So i put my old wheel back on the front driver side to see if it went away, and it did.

I brought the summer rim/tire to local tire place to have them check it and balance it. They re balanced it and i tried it again, and still the same problem.

I checked the bearing and there is like no play at all. I remember last year when i had the rims on that the sound was coming from the back and now that i rotated them to the front its starting up there.. What can it be if its balancing out fine?

check for nails or for something inside of the wheel and tire itself... where did you get them mounted and balanced? They might be able to help you out as well.

yea i went through the whole tire, holds air fine, nothing noticible in the tread. the tire shop i brought it back to is the one that mounted it and balanced it. They just rebalanced it, and still problems

i am using hub centric rings, but it seems to seat snuggly up against the hub

Well, it sorta has to be the tire. The wheel, unless its cracked, can't make noises like that.

Since the tires are old, I suppose it's time to bite the bullet and replace them. I mean, if the cords are separating and making noise like that, you don't want to be riding around very long like that... *shrug*

Your tires are feathered

Some tires are more succeptible of getting feathered i.e. Kuhmo MX, Falken ZE512, Bridgestone S03, Dunlop SPA2.

Feathering is caused by several things but mostly alignment. You will not be able to get rid of the sound UNLESS (even maybe) you flip the tires, meaning swap sides of the tires.

did you get a warranty with your tires? if so.. trade it in..

Just get a new set of tires or a new tire.

I had to google it, I've never heard of that.

Sounds like a good solid burnout could fix it?

Feathered Toe Angle:
This type of tire wear is typically caused by misalignment and can easily be felt by running your hand along the tread.

It doesnt matter how many miles your vehicle has. I also forgot to mention ES100's are also a bad tire to feather. The bigger a tread block, the higher chance to feather.

Rotate that tire to the back and it should move the sound to where you can hear it the least.

Put that rim on the back of the car and see if you get the same noise with the original rear rim on the front, if you dont then its definitely the tyre and not the rim or dust shields or whatever

I would have guessed wheel weights hitting the calipers but you are running larger wheels.

What does a "feathered tire" sound like when driving?

Maybe something grew inside your tire and it's bouncing around?
