installing front axles
I have a 90 accord that I can't get the new or old axles back in. They stop about an inch short of going all the way into the trans. I've tapped on them with a mallot and the don't move at all. What's the trick?
put most of the axle in the trans first, put the other end in the hub, then now you just need to put it in, most of the people doing their honda axle at home i know done it like this.
just make sure you have all the seal and spine lined up good or you'll wasting time.
you know your axle is in when you hear the magic CLICK

yeah they're tricky man
I ended up having my dad hold up the axle and just kicking the end of it. A rubber mallet is your friend, and don't be scared if its stiff. I've never seen anyone slide in an axle with their bare hands. Did you lube it up or anything?
Whatever you do DO NOT BEND THE THREADS on the end of your brand new axle. I recommend threading the nut on just in case, that way you can bend the threads back if need be. My buddy did that and totally threw away $200.

I have never needed a rubber mallet, if it doesn't go in after trying to slide it in try taking it out and turning it a bit and trying again. Also put a little wd-40 on the end and it will slide into the disc a lot easier.

wouldnt wd-40 break down the grease that should be applied to the end of it??? i would just make sure its lubed up good and use the rubber mallet

all these ideas are good I've changed engines a few times and run into the same problem. what I did was use a 2x4 and a wedge or shorter piece on the driver. side and just pry on it till it goes in; same on the pass. side I also have the front end off the floor it seems to make them go in easier. Pry on cv joint;;they won't break goodluck
